Dr Tania Nelson has been chosen as the recipient of this yearโs Margaret Pech Scholarship.
The scholarship was established by the late Pastor Herman Pech and his wife, Elizabeth in memory of their daughter Margaret, to support a woman studying theology at Australian Lutheran College.
The scholarship was established a number of years after Margaret's death and since 1995, thirty-one women, including Tania, have been the grateful recipients of the Pechโs generosity.
Tania is in her final year of a Master of Theological Studies degree and is completing her studies while serving the Mawson Lakes Community Church.

The Lutheran Church of Australia (LCA) views professional development as an essential, ongoing part of a pastor's and church worker's vocation. In fact, the LCA expects pastors, in particular, to include 40 hours of continuing education activities in their annual calendars.
ALC has a number of professional learning opportunities on offer in July, which pastors and church workers are welcome to attend, alongside of enrolled students. This onsite training will be held at Church House in Adelaide.
Dr Tania Nelson will deliver an โIntroduction to Christian Missionโ from 15-18 July. Tania has undertaken studies in education and in theology/ministry and her doctoral research centred on mission - a subject she has pursued with keen interest for many years. She is currently serving as the Ministry Lead at Mawson Lakes Community Church and was the former manager of Lutheran Media - an outreach ministry of the Lutheran Church of Australia.
Professor Albert Haddad will deliver a โCoaching and Mentoringโ workshop from 24-25 July. Albert has over 20 years experience in leadership roles in higher education, theology, and ministry and is the founder of Leadwise Consulting Pty Ltd - a leadership and change management consultancy. He is currently serving as Dean of Academic Programs at the University of Divinity.
Non ALC students registering to attend a workshop for professional learning purposes will be required to pay an audit fee which will include morning tea, afternoon tea and lunch.

ALC has a diverse group of students who are on a pastoral ministry journey. Over the coming months, we will introduce some of these students to you in our eNews. This month we profile our South Australian Vicar, Paul Ridley.
Paul lives in the Barossa Valley with his wife Jenny and is currently completing his vicarage placement at Zion Lutheran Church, Angaston.
Throughout his career, Paul has dedicated himself to service, moving from roles as a lay worker in congregations and parishes across South Australia, Victoria, and Tasmania to serving as a high school chaplain and then, as a youth worker.
Paul first studied at ALC from 1988 to 1991. His motive for studying theology at the time, was to gain a better understanding of the teachings of the church and what it means to be Lutheran. So, whatโs brought Paul back to ALC after all these years?

Australian Lutheran College (ALC) is tasked with preparing people both academically and vocationally for service in the church and the churchโs schools.
Last year ALC was thrilled to be able to report a growth in student enrolments with many new students embarking on a pathway leading to pastoral ministry. In 2026 we are equally thrilled to report that we have 44 active ministry and theology students. These students โ 19 females and 25 males - are situated within all districts of the LCANZ and attend classes online from where they live. Twelve of these students are discerning a General Ministry Pastor pathway and 15 students are engaged in Specific Ministry Pastor training opportunities. In addition, ALC has 11 students undertaking a Bachelor of Counselling degree and 26 students participating in studies as part of LEAโs Leadership Development Program (LDP), which is run every two years.
