Microsoft commits $10M to Code.org as survey finds obstacles to teaching computer science
The $10 million effort has two stated goals by 2020, according to Microsoft: Ensure every state has passed policies to expand access to computer science and that every school in the U.S. will have access to Code.org teacher professional development.

There are half as many women studying computer science today as there were ten years ago. In a world increasingly dependent on computers and technology, this needs to change. That's why we're extremely happy to partner with Code.org, a non-profit who works hard to break stereotypes and provide all students the opportunity to learn computer science.

It's Computer Science Education week, and Code.org wants to get 100 million people to do Hour of Code by the end of the year to raise more awareness about coding education in schools.

The Hour of Code is an initiative that takes place during CSEd Week (the second week of December) where everyone is encouraged to try programming for at least one hour. The idea behind the movement is very similar to getting a child to try a new food. Someone may think that they don’t have a taste for programming, but a great first experience might chance their mind.
