Yesterday some of the AUDBF Committee had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Sir Ross and Sir Keith Smith Fund: 40 Years of Impact Celebration, held at the Vickers Vimy Museum at Adelaide Airport. It was a fascinating event and we would like to sincerely thank the Smith Fund for the invitation and for their support of the AUDBF.

Today’s fact focuses on a shadowy and feared Soviet Aircraft, the legendary MiG-28. While very little is known about about this aircraft and its service life, it was famously involved in some incidents involving US Navy F-14s, including a shoot down incident where the F-14 proved its effectiveness against the best the East had to offer. This was documented in the 1986 documentary Top Gun.

This fact focuses on one of the most crucial pieces of safety technology in modern military aviation, the ejection seat. Ejection seats are a topic which can be explored in further detail so expect facts relating to their operation, or even individual seats which are in widespread use, such as the Martin-Baker Mk.10 or the Collins aerospace ACES II, to come at a later date. First fact back after exams 🥳
Keeping it simple this week with a classic airliner, the Lockheed Constellation. Lockheed Super Constellations were flown by QANTAS on their famous Kangaroo Route between Sydney and London. If you have anything you really feel people should know feel free to send in a suggestion, can be basically anything aerospace related.
