Tabor Faculty of Ministry Practice

Tabor Faculty of Ministry Practice We believe the world needs to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ. The Faculty of Ministry Practice at Tabor is multi-denominational.

Tabor is a Tertiary Institution with particular expertise in the education and formation of community professionals such as pastors, teachers, counsellors, youth workers, musicians, creative communicators and intercultural workers. In Jesus, God shows his love for humanity, His desire to be in relationship with us, and His power to restore us to new life. All our courses are shaped to equip people

to know and share the Gospel message, in a whole range of situations. We’re an Evangelical community with a Charismatic ethos. Our approach to study is applied and focuses on contextual learning – which means it’s both practical and relevant to a wide range of ministry situations. The way our courses are designed makes it possible for students to take subjects from other areas, such as Counselling and Youth Work, which allows for customised pathways for those with a pastoral care focus. Our graduates find work in many different roles. Some go on to serve as Lead Pastors or Assistant Pastors at churches across different denominations. Some focus on pastoral care or chaplaincy within churches and education settings. Many work in Christian ministry in other contexts, such as the Community Services and Aged Care. Others work in cross-cultural Mission, both locally and internationally. And Bible translation is also an area that attracts many of our students.

Thomas Merton on being an experienced Christian: "We do
not want to be beginners. But let us be convinced of the fact that we will never be anything else but beginners."

Evelyn Underhill, "We mostly spend our lives conjugating three verbs: to Want, to Have, and to Do. Craving, clutching, and fussing, on the material, political, social, emotional, intellectual - and even on the religious - plane, we are kept in perpetual unrest : forgetting that none of these verbs have any ultimate significance, except so far as they are transcended by and included in, the fundamental verb, to BE. And that Being, not wanting, having and doing, is the essence of the spiritual life. But now, with this widening of horizon, our personal ups and downs, desires, cravings, efforts, are seen in scale, as small and transitory spiritual facts within a vast abiding spiritual world, and lit by a steady spiritual light. And at once a new coherence comes into our existence, a new tranquility and release."
