We’re partnering with Child and Family Health Service (CaFHS) to explore new Parent and Caregiver Information Sessions at selected Goodstart centres - and we’d love your input! 💛
These sessions are designed to support families with helpful information, connections to services and practical advice on topics that matter most to you.
We’re asking families to complete a short survey to help shape:
✨ Topics you’d like covered
✨ The types of sessions you’d find most helpful
✨ What would encourage you to attend
Your feedback will help us create sessions that are relevant, accessible and valuable for our centre community.
Complete the short survey here: https://brnw.ch/21x2GoS
Thank you for helping us create meaningful support opportunities for families in our community.

Number Pizza – Expectation vs Reality
Sometimes the best intentional experience ideas don’t go to plan. Instead, an even better experience takes its place!
In our Junior Preschool room, the children enjoyed a fun and engaging “Number Pizza” learning experience!
Using cardboard pizza slices and colourful toppings, the children explored creativity, shared conversations, and strengthened their early numeracy skills through hands-on play.
Expectation
The children were encouraged to match the number on pizza toppings with the number on the pizza.
Reality
The enjoyed carefully decorated their pizzas and matched numbers on the pizza slices with the numbers on the pizza trays.
Whichever way they choose to explore this experience the children are still developing they number recognition, fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, communication, and confidence in learning through play.
It was wonderful to see their excitement, curiosity, and teamwork throughout the experience.
This learning experience links to the EYLF Outcomes 1, 4 & 5 as children developed a strong sense of identity, became confident and involved learners, and engaged in effective communication through collaborative play and exploration.

To some, this may look like a collection of messy, abandoned kitchen resources. But in reality, this was the centre of rich, imaginative play.
Just moments before this photo was taken, five children, from Junior Preschool and Preschool, were deeply engaged in a role-play experience they called “Mums and Dads.” They were busy cooking dinners, baking cakes for their babies, and enthusiastically gathering more ingredients to continue their play.
Children’s play is rarely neat or perfectly organised - and that’s exactly how meaningful learning often looks. We embrace the mess because within those moments of creativity, collaboration, and imagination, the real magic happens.
Outcome 1: Children have a strong sense of identity – Children learn to interact in relation to others with care, empathy and respect
Outcome 3: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing – Children become strong in their social, emotional and mental wellbeing
Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners

Looking closely, thinking deeply, and drawing what we see 🐞✏️
Our preschool children explored charcoal observational drawing as they studied insects found in our outdoor environment. Through careful observation, they noticed details like wings, legs, patterns, and textures, using charcoal to represent what makes each insect unique.
This experience supports EYLF Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners, as they investigate, explore, and develop skills in observation and representation. It also connects to Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators, using visual art to share their understanding of the natural world.

Fresh air, big ideas, and paint-covered hands 🎨☀️
Our outdoor easel was busy this week as children explored colours, experimented with different brush strokes, and expressed their creativity in their own unique ways. Painting outside invites freedom, collaboration, and a deeper connection to the world around us.
Linked to EYLF Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators, as they use art to share their thoughts, ideas, and feelings.

One of the first things you see when you arrive at Goodstart Brighton is our community library. Children take a book home almost every time they walk through our doors. We have rehomed hundreds of books since our library opened in early 2025 ✨ 📖
Does your child have a storybook that they want to read over and over again? Share with us in the comments.
