"We don't want to sit still and fall apart, we want to be fit and healthy and strong as long as possible

Life is worth living with independence, moving better, bending, carrying, hiking, running, playing with your grandkids and going on adventures.

Build strength and capacity, add the endurance and consistency. Repeat, repeat, repeat.
Watch out for the winner 🏆

Now Easter break has passed and we're focussed again, I just thought I'd do a huge shout out to this legend Em, who quietly went about her business week in week out, navigating a crazy work schedule to sneak away with a 1st place on her "training run".

I Love what I do.. when it's loved so much by you.
Get out there and achieve your best.

It's not always how you planned or thought.
Somedays are just plain hard. You're tired, your body isn't responding the way it used to. You feel let down by it and don't always know how to manage it.

Step 1. Starr by moving gently when you can.
Step 2. Get out in nature, feel the sun on your skin
Step 3. Be focused on what you can do, not what you can't or used to.
Step 4. Hit those downhills with gusto and feel the wind beneath your wings.
Step 5. Feel proud of listening to your body.
Refuel, Hydrate and Rest.

Every day is worth it, make it count. Even if it's a rest day.

I cannot believe tbis happened.

Now the pain is gone it Feels sureal.

Already over 6 weeks ago, battling gale force wind and never ending mud, climbs and the unrelenting banter in my head on how amazing the scenery is but also how quite frankly, I'd had enough. I felt unsettled, out of my depth and my knee had also decided it could no longer survive the constant sliding and slipping.

What I have come to realise is I still achieved something massive.
Something beyond what I have done before in terrain and weather nothing like home.

We always underestimate ourselves, put huge pressure on performance that we can miss the importance of what we achieve.
The time we put into training, getting up early, missing out on things.

Celebrate it all... You're doing amazing.

What does community mean to you?

To me, community means finding people who share my values and passions. Giving back through volunteering, supporting my mates, and helping clients achieve their goals is truly fulfilling.
It’s the sense of belonging and purpose that comes with being part of something bigger.
Seeing clients push past their limits, overcome obstacles, and celebrate their successes is the best part.
And that finish line moment – it’s the ultimate reward for all the hard work and dedication.
Base2Summit Coaching has been around for over 16 years because creating a supportive community around your training helps you stay focused and committed.

I had a stack Sunday! After 22km and heat, I was tired and this time I actually didn't roll. I went splat.

When injuries happen they arrive suddenly and unexpected, with pain and also feel like they completely mess up our way of life.

One moment you’re flowing through training; the next you’re forced to stop.
Injury doesn’t just affect tissue. It disrupts identity, routine, confidence, and control.

As a coach and athlete, understanding the progression of injury — not just physically but psychologically — is powerful. It helps you respond rather than react.

“It’s Probably Nothing”
Most injuries begin with denial.
There’s pain, but it feels manageable. You convince yourself it's ok. .
Realisation — Training Stops
When the pain doesn’t settle — or worsens — reality sets in.
Your training program goes on hold or drops to the bare minimum. The daily dog walk becomes difficult. work is uncomfortable. Sleep is disrupted.
Now the injury feels bigger than ever expected.

Emotionally the frustration rises.
Anxiety creeps in.
There’s a loss of routine.
For many athletes, routine equals stability. Remove training, and the foundation feels unstable.

Psychological Demise
This is the stage few people talk about openly.
The injury lingers. Progress feels slow. You start questioning:
“Why did this happen?”
“Will I get back to where I was?”
“Am I losing fitness?”
“What if this becomes chronic?”
We start to feel Irritable, have low moods and lack motivation,
The feeling of being Isolated from training partners and friends
Fear of movement and doing too much too soon,
The injury becomes more than physical — it becomes an identity threat.

We know it's will pass, however minor or serious. But we need to let ourselves deal with this process of accepting the injury. Going through the grieving period where time helps us understand and deal with what is happening, and then we can focus on the journey ahead. 1 day at a time.
