✈️𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗙𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀: 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘂 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝘆'𝘀 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗩𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗻𝗮𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗱𝗲✈️

For me, Flinders University has been more than just a place to study; it's been my second home.

⭐️Since 2014, I've collaborated with Flinders University's Gender Consortium on international development projects in Southeast Asia, and this strong relationship made choosing Flinders for my Master in Sustainable Development an easy decision. 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙄 𝙙𝙞𝙙𝙣'𝙩 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙬𝙤 𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙛𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝘼𝙙𝙚𝙡𝙖𝙞𝙙𝙚. The first, a close-knit group of Australia Awards students from Malaysia, Myanmar, and Vietnam, who have shared in the homesickness, stories, and cultural bonds that make studying abroad so special. The second, a welcoming Australian community, including my former colleagues and their friends, who embraced me as one of their own.

⭐️𝘼𝙩 𝙁𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨, 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙗𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜. From critical debates and open discussions to a nurturing environment where there's no shame in seeking help, I've gained the tools and perspectives needed to tackle issues with flexibility and openness. The unique combination of knowledge-sharing, silly fun discussions, and evidence-based decision-making has prepared me for my future career and life.

⭐️After graduation, I'll return to Vietnam with a renewed passion for applying what I've learned, especially in my work with marginalized groups. 𝙁𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙜𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙠𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙨, 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙛𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙗𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙄 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙧𝙮 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙢𝙚 𝙖𝙡𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨. Grateful for every moment, every friendship, and every opportunity that has come my way.

SA based networks please share this fabulous initiative and consider joining up and/or encouraging businesses to become WE’RE EQUAL members. Moving beyond what we say to what we actually do in practice and being explicit and proud about our efforts!

What a thrill to attend Blend Creative's premises this week to celebrate them becoming WE’RE EQUAL members, and to see their premises.

Since 1994, the United Nations General Assembly decided this day will be observed on 9 August every year. This International Day of Indigenous Peoples 2023, under the title of "Indigenous youth as agents of change for self-determination", revindicates the role that indigenous youth must occupy in decision-making while recognizing their dedicated efforts in climate action, the search for justice for their people, and the creation of an intergenerational connection that keeps their culture, traditions, and contributions alive

Alarming rise of women in prison must be addressed, rights summit told 17/07/2023

"The number of women and girls in prison has grown by almost 60% since 2000, nearly three times the increase in the male prison population of about 22%.

The global female prison population increased by more than 100,000 in the 10 years up to the end of 2020. Evidence shows women’s incarceration is closely linked to domestic violence, poverty and discriminatory laws.”

“GIẢI NÉN” ĐỊNH KIẾN GIỚI TRONG QUẢNG CÁO / UNPACKING GENDER STEREOTYPES IN ADVERTISEMENT

📺Do you ever notice how advertisements for kitchenware and household items often feature women as the main characters? Or luxury car advertisements rely on the images of elegant gentlemen?

📣The advertising industry often uses stereotypes to deliver messages quickly, but how do gender stereotypes in advertising affect the audience? How do we recognise and unpack the meanings behind these gender prejudices and stereotypes to challenge them, when they are interlaced between our favourite entertainment programs and TV shows?

💬Join the panel ‘Unpacking Gender Stereotypes in Advertisement’ to discuss these issues with our speakers!

⏰Time: 9-11am Saturday, 22 July 2023, at Aus4Skills Office or online through Zoom.

Speakers
🔸Ms Bui Thi Thanh Hoa, Researcher & Gender Specialist, Carleton University, Master of Women’s Studies, Flinders University alumni.
🔸Mr Hoang Anh Nguyen, Masters Degree in Gender and Women’s Studies, Flinders University alumni.

“For Our Elders” Our current students and international alumni will be interested to know that this week here in Australia we are celebrating NAIDOC week. This year focuses on remembering the important and prominent role Elders have played, and continue to play, in First Nations communities and families. They are revered as cultural knowledge holders, trailblazers, nurturers, advocates, teachers, survivors, leaders, hard workers and loved ones. They guide generations and are respected for having paved the way for First Nations peoples.
