π£ Introducing our fantastic Industry Liason Nishant Shaju ! π£
Nishant is a post graduate mechanical engineering student currently in his final semester of study. He is currently working as a Graduate engineer π (Building Services) at Trinamic consultants and act as the industry liaison officer at IET Adelaide university on campus. He is interested in playing chess β, basketball π and also to wander with friends trying out different cuisines π.
π€ What inspired you to get involved with the IET as a volunteer during your undergraduate studies?
π€ My inspiration was to connect and network with more people in field of STEM and also to give back to the community. By being a IET volunteer, I aim in organising and setting up different events, workshops and networking opportunities as a team, for professional development of university students.
π€ What valuable skills have you gained or developed through your volunteer work with the IET, and how do you think these skills will benefit your future career?
π€ By being in this position, I was able to hone my leadership, communication and overall professional development. I believe this would greatly help when I will be starting my professional career in dealing with cross functional teams to execute different engineering projects.
π€ What are you looking forward to the most in this coming year? Either personally, professionally or both!
π€ I am looking forward to being part of the team in implementing more events as part of the IET club. I am also excited to complete my masterβs degree successfully and move to start my professional journey.
π€ Connect with Nishant on LinkedIn if youβre interested to find out more about his journey!

π£ Introducing our amazing Events Coordinator Aida Rasekhi! π£
Aida came to Australia 10 years ago as a refugee! She is currently a mechanical engineering π§ and computer science student π». In her spare time, Aida focuses on her well being as well as keeping fit and active πͺ.
π€ Having been on the committee now for a almost a year now, what excited you the most about volunteering with the IET?
π€ I absolutely love the range of support we have for students throughout the year. Itβs so exciting when you see students benefit from our events, whether that is professionally, academically or personally, they always seem to get a whole lot out of them!
π€ What advice would you give to other undergraduate students who are considering joining or volunteering with an engineering society at their university?
π€ I would definitely say, whether you are a member or thinking of volunteering with engineering societies, the most important thing is to attend all the events and make the most of them! You get exclusive support and opportunities, and get to meet people just like you. Itβs the best way to get involved and get more out of your University experience !
π€ What are you looking forward to the most in this coming year? Either personally, professionally or both!
π€ This year Iβm looking to take it a bit slow. As Iβm passing the halfway line of my 5 year degree, itβs important to allow for breaks and also leave room for physical and mental well-being!

π£ Introducing our wonderful Vice President Harrison Warrick! π£
Harrison is the Design, Technology & Engineering Workshop π¨ Technician at Concordia College. He maintains and improves the wood and metal workshops to assist in enabling the students to create the best projects they can. In his free time, he loves camping, 4WDing π» , and tinkering in the shed. He has driven to every state on camping holidays except the ACT β thatβs next on the list π!
π€ What inspired you to get involved with the IET as a volunteer during your undergraduate studies?
π€ I was looking for a way to get involved in some extra-curricular activities at university, as I really enjoyed being in student-led activities at school, and volunteering with the IET was a perfect opportunity. Itβs enabled me to give back to the engineering community, and being involved in something outside just my study has added so much to my university experience and been a great way to meet new people.
π€ Can you share a specific achievement or impact that you're particularly proud of from your time volunteering with the IET?
π€ I'm really proud to have been involved in our latest event, the Transformers themed double-header with an industry presentation night followed by a networking event. It was so rewarding to see all the effort put in by the committee pay off - seeing students having meaningful conversations with our amazing industry guests made it all worthwhile.
Itβs also been great to see the development and growth of our committee, with students who began attending IET events now being on the committee helping organise them.
π€What are you looking forward to the most in this coming year? Either personally, professionally or both!
π€ Being in my final year of mechanical engineering, I am completing a group Honours project. We have completed the background research, and now get to start the fun part - building a bio-inspired shape-shifting robot for the Moon!
π€ Connect with Harrison on LinkedIn if youβre interested to find out more about his journey!

π£ Introducing our incredible IET President Tyson Baker! π£
Tyson is currently in his 5th year of Mechanical Engineering π and Computer Science π». In between studying, he works at a little wine bar called Lune. He enjoys golf, rock-climbing and, recently has gotten into some baking π₯.
π€ How do you envision the future of the IET and its role in supporting and promoting STEM undergraduates?
π€ The IET has many exciting initiatives, which I see greatly assisting current and future students. One such item is the upcoming mentoring program connecting undergraduates and young professionals with experienced mentors. I think this will be an amazing resource to help guide people through the difficult stages of their careers. Programs like this are unique to the IET and I believe it highlights the benefits of having a global engineering body with students, young professionals and professional members.
π€ How do you balance your academic commitments with your volunteer responsibilities, and do you have any time management tips to share?
π€ I am a big user of scheduling software, it lets me keep track of all the tasks whether it be university, work, or volunteer related. I still often get the work-life balance wrong and there have been plenty of stressful weeks throughout my degree. My advice is don't be too harsh on yourself and make sure to find some time to socialise and enjoy university life as well.
π€ What advice would you give to other undergraduate students who are considering joining or volunteering with an engineering society at their university?
π€ Yeah, get involved! It doesn't matter if you don't have any experience or know anyone on a committee. The engineering societies are full of amazing people you will get to meet and work with. You will gain so many new skills which really complement the technical knowledge from your degree. My advice is to get involved early, if you're a first or second year student consider joining as a general member and if you enjoy it you can step up to an executive position later on.
π€ Connect with Tyson on LinkedIn if youβre interested to find out more about his journey!
