🌊 Local School Excursion 🌊
Recently, the children enjoyed a wonderful excursion to our local school, Hallett Cove R-12, where they had the opportunity to explore, investigate and play in a new learning environment.

During our visit, the children explored the marine lab, participated in science experiments, shared a story together in the library, and enjoyed time playing on the school playground.

This experience supported the children’s curiosity, confidence, communication and sense of connection with the wider community. It also provided a meaningful opportunity to extend their learning through hands-on exploration, early science concepts, literacy and active outdoor play.

A big thank you to the school for welcoming us and providing such a fun and engaging learning experience for the children.

🧪 Science Week Explorations 🧪

This week, the children have been busy exploring, experimenting and investigating as part of Science Week.

So far, we have made our own kinetic sand and participated in a sink or float experiment, encouraging the children to make predictions, test their ideas and observe what happened.

These hands-on experiences have supported curiosity, problem-solving, sensory exploration, communication and early scientific thinking. The children have been asking questions, sharing their ideas and discovering new concepts through play-based learning.

We are excited to continue our Science Week investigations with more experiments and discoveries across the week! 🔍✨

🚓 Police Incursion 🚓

As part of our current inquiry project into emergency services, the children were very excited to welcome the SA Police for a special incursion.

Throughout the visit, the children had the opportunity to learn more about the important role police officers have in keeping our community safe. They engaged in conversations about what police do, explored dress-ups through role play, and were very excited to check out the police car up close.

This experience supported the children’s growing understanding of emergency services, community helpers and safety, while encouraging curiosity, language development, confidence and real-world learning.

A big thank you to the police officers who came out and helped bring our learning to life! 🚨

Today the children created their own sensory bags using lavender, rosemary, essential oils and cotton buds. 🌿💜

They explored the different scents, textures and natural materials while using their fine motor skills to carefully add each item into their bags.

This calming sensory experience encouraged curiosity, creativity, language development and connection with the natural world. ✨

This week, as part of our NAIDOC Week learning, the children engaged in a sensory tray experience exploring Australian animals. 🐨🐢🦘

The children were invited to investigate a range of animals and consider whether they live on the land or in the sea. Through hands-on play, they explored different textures, sorted animals into groups, and shared their ideas about where each animal belongs.

This experience supported children’s curiosity, language development, problem-solving skills, and understanding of the natural world. It also provided an opportunity to respectfully acknowledge and celebrate Australia’s rich First Nations cultures, connection to Country, and the importance of caring for land, sea, animals, and environment.

A beautiful learning experience filled with exploration, conversation, and discovery. ❤️💛🖤

❄️ Exploring the Winter Solstice ❄️

This week, the children explored the magic of the winter solstice through a beautiful sensory experience.

They created their own icy decorations using water, glitter, and red cellophane, carefully adding sparkle and colour before freezing them overnight.

The next day, the decorations were hung in the tree, where the children could watch them glisten in the winter light. As the ice slowly melted, they were able to touch, observe, and talk about the changes happening in front of them.

This experience encouraged curiosity, sensory exploration, and connection with the natural world as the children noticed light, colour, texture, temperature, and change. 🌿✨

This week, the children explored Endangered Species Day through a beautiful small world play experience featuring a waterfall habitat and Australian animals. 🦘🐨💦
Through imaginative play and discussion, the children learned about some of Australia’s endangered animals and the importance of protecting their natural environments. Small world play encourages curiosity, creativity, and meaningful conversations, helping children develop empathy and a deeper connection to the world around them. 🌿💛

It’s been wonderful to see the children so engaged in learning about how we can care for and protect our wildlife for future generations. 🌏✨
