Classrooms 1 and 3 have been exploring nature and all of its fascinating little critters. To extend their learning they have ventured out on nature walks to investigate the world around them.
Classroom 3 visited Lovell Reserve, where they searched for bugs as part of their ongoing inquiry into creatures that call the earth home. Classroom 1 set off in the pram to the children’s garden, Wakwakurnaku Wirra. Here they used their senses to connect with nature and explore the garden. A clear favourite was the pots and pans wall, which invited plenty of experimentation!
In the spirit of the Reggio Emilia approach, the children were given time and space to follow their curiosities, discovering that nature is a powerful teacher.

Over the past couple weeks we have had a station set up in the Educator Retreat, where our teams have been able to create their own superhero shirts. We took like to reflect on each others super powers in our sector, what makes us special and our strengths.
We wore them today, on Nido Day and celebrate our incredible team at Nido Early School Athelstone.

A Child's Right to Choice - Can We Take Your Photo?
As part of our commitment to honoring each child’s voice, we have introduced a new child choice system within our service upon critical reflection.
Each morning and throughout the day, each child is invited to find their name and place it under “Yes, I would like my photo taken today” or “No, I would not like my photo taken today”. This simple but meaningful choice empowers children to express their preferences and gives them a sense of ownership over how their learning and experiences are documented.
By providing children with the opportunity to make this decision each day, we actively support their right to be heard, respected and involved in decisions that affect them.

Dental for Schools Incursion
This week, we were fortunate to welcome Dental for Schools to our Early learning Centre. This incursion provides a wonderful opportunity for families to access essential dental care for their children while they are in our safe learning environment .
The experience was made fun and engaging for the children, helping to create positive early associations with dental visits. We understand that visiting the dentist can sometimes be an anxious experience for young children, so having this service delivered in a familiar, safe environment, surrounded by their friends and supported by their teachers which makes a significant difference.
The team from Dental for Schools were fantastic with the children, showing kindness, patience, and a great ability to make the experience enjoyable for everyone involved. We loved having you and cant wait for your next visit.

🧧 Celebrating Chinese New Year at the Centre! 🏮
This week, our Centre has been filled with colour, joy, and cultural learning as we celebrated Chinese New Year!
Through our classrooms, children explored the traditions and stories behind this special celebration. Our amazing staff joined in the celebrations, embracing the spirit of the Lunar New Year and helping create meaningful learning experiences for the children.
One of the highlights was making dumplings together! The children loved getting hands-on mixing, filling, and folding, while learning about the significance of dumplings in New Year celebrations. It was a beautiful way to share culture through food, conversation, and connection.
At our Centre, we are proud to celebrate the diverse cultures within our community and to nurture understanding, respect, and curiosity in our little learners.
Wishing everyone happiness, good health, and prosperity in the year ahead!

We were delighted to welcome Claire Clutterham, Member for Sturt, to Nido Early School Athelstone today.
Claire is not only a dedicated local representative and councillor for Norwood Payneham & St Peters, but also a lawyer, Royal Flying Doctor Service Board member, wife, step-mum and passionate community advocate. As a parent herself, she understands the realities of raising a young family and the importance of strong, supportive communities.
During her visit, we had the wonderful opportunity to showcase our philosophy, our learning environments, and the incredible work our team does every day to support children and families. We also took the opportunity to advocate for our children, our educators, our families, and the early learning sector as a whole.
Claire was incredibly generous with her time, listening thoughtfully to our conversations and engaging warmly with both educators and children.
A special highlight was in Classrooms 4 and 5, where our current inquiry learning focus is community engagement. The children had the opportunity to share their ideas, ask questions, and even sing along with Claire, a meaningful experience that truly brought their learning to life.
Thank you, Claire, for visiting our school and for taking the time to hear the voices of our community. We look forward to continuing the conversation about building a strong future for our children. Claire Clutterham MP
