Some of our Certificate II in Aeroskills students stepped up to explain how a gas turbine engine works — turning a complex aircraft system into something clear, practical and hands-on.

That is exactly what aircraft engineering training should do: help students understand real aviation systems, build confidence with technical ideas, and learn how to communicate what they know.

Great work to the students involved. It takes real confidence to learn something technical, then explain it clearly to others.

Flight One School of Engineering is pleased to announce updated leadership appointments within the organisation.

Andrew Barnes has been appointed Chief Executive Officer, while Aaron Peterson has been elevated to Chief Operations Officer and Head of School.

These changes reflect the continued growth of the School of Engineering and reinforce our commitment to high-quality aircraft maintenance engineer training and strong industry engagement across Australia.

Congrats to Flight One School of Engineering for recently being shortlisted as a finalist in the Defence & National Security Workforce Awards 2026. 🛫

This prestigious awards programme is dedicated to recognising the exceptional individuals, teams and initiatives that are shaping the future of Australia’s defence and national security landscape, providing them with a career-elevating exposure they deserve. Winners will be announced at a black-tie gala at Sofitel Sydney Wentworth on Thursday this week.

This hard won, well deserved award opportunity comes on top of a hugely successful intake of school students into FOSE’s SA funded Cert II in Aeroskills and the successful conclusion of the special JobSeeker Cert II in Aeroskills for adult learners.

On Saturday 17 January 2026, we held a graduation event at Flight One’s Adelaide International Airport training facility, celebrating students who completed the Certificate II in Aeroskills across two 2025 streams: the Boeing Defence Australia cohort and our VETiS High School Programme. 🛫🛠️

This training is funded by the South Australian Government, helping rebuild a local pipeline of practical aircraft maintenance skills — right here in SA.
South Australia’s Skills Commissioner Cameron Baker and Group Captain Martin Ball spoke about how proud they are that, through the Government’s partnership with Flight One, we’ve been able to train aircraft engineers locally again after a hiatus of more than five years.

“Aeroskills training isn’t abstract — it’s hands-on, safety-critical work. Today’s graduates have built the habits that matter in aviation: quality, documentation, teamwork, and doing the job properly. We’re proud of what they’ve achieved, and proud to be training the next generation of local aircraft engineers in South Australia,” said Andrew Barnes, Head of School.

🎓 Far East University Graduation

On 3rd September 2025, our Head of School Andrew Barnes attended the 2nd graduation ceremony for Certificate IV students at Far East University, Gamgok-Myeon.

Highlights included meeting with University President Ryu Ki-Il, presenting gifts to the President and the course Dux, and celebrating alongside proud graduates and staff.

A fantastic milestone for our partnership with Far East University — congratulations to all the new graduates and the FOSE Training Team!

In May, the Flight One School of Engineering team had the privilege of exhibiting at the Adelaide Careers & Employment Expo — and it was the event's largest attendance to date.

We were proud to showcase our trailblazing Certificate II in Aeroskills program, giving students and jobseekers a firsthand look at where a career in aircraft maintenance can begin.

The support from the South Australian Government and the ADF was outstanding, and it was inspiring to see so much interest from the next generation of engineers.

Celebrating Our Latest Certificate II in Aeroskills Graduates! 🎉✈️

Today, our instructor Tony Lohmeyer, visited Underdale High School to personally present Karim Nasr and Solomon Turkmani with their Certificate II in Aeroskills (MEA20418).

Both students were unable to attend the recent graduation ceremony, but their achievements are no less significant! Congratulations to Karim and Solomon on reaching this milestone—we can’t wait to see where their aviation journey takes them next! 🚀
