Last night, our families were invited to attend an information session about Flying Start, presented by our Early Childhood Teacher, Thushan, and Lead Educator, Ella, alongside Carly and Sam from OECD. The evening provided families with valuable information about the program and opportunities to support children's learning and development.

Thushan and Ella spoke with families about what the Flying Start program has looked like since commencing in January, sharing the experiences, learning opportunities, and positive outcomes observed so far.

Does your child turn three before Term 3? If so, we encourage you to reach out to learn more about the benefits of the Flying Start program in Classroom 4 and how it can support your child's learning and development.

Did you know? Here at Nido Early School Somerton Park we have been running Flying Start 3-year-old preschool since Term 1; we were fortunate to be one of the first centres to be selected for this program!

This year we’re focusing on social and emotional wellbeing, and our teacher Thushan has been helping children learn to recognise their feelings and choose positive ways to respond. They’re also practising how to handle those tricky social moments like sharing, turn‑taking, and solving little conflicts with friends. Every day, we see their confidence and empathy growing!

If you would like to know more about this program at our service, enquire now!

This afternoon, our Classroom 3 and Classroom 4 children explored a beautiful musical painting experience with educator Ines as part of our music curriculum. As they listened to the changing rhythms, they noticed how the music shaped their brushstrokes and colours. 🎶🎨
“How does the music make you feel?”
Their artwork became a visual expression of emotion, movement, and imagination!

🚒 Did you see our special visitors as you drove past today?🚒

One of the local South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service brigades sparked plenty of excitement when they visited our centre today! The crew spent some time talking with the children about fire safety and what to do in case of emergency, helping them learn without feeling alarmed.

Then came the real blaze of glory: the children were invited out to explore the fire truck, hop behind the hose, and experience what it’s like to be a real firefighter. There were smiles igniting everywhere!

A huge thank you to the crew for fueling such a memorable morning for our little learners!

Today we welcomed artist David Booth, a proud Warumunga/Yuggera man, to our centre, where he invited us to learn, create, and connect through a variety of experiences. He shared music and storytelling with us through the yidaki (digeridoo), and began the first layers of a creating a mural alongside our educators and children.

This mural will tell the story of Nido Early School Somerton Park — a place grounded in connection: connection to each other, to our community, and to our beautiful physical surroundings on the Adelaide plains near the ocean.

We can't wait to see the finished product. Stay tuned for updates!
