đź’› 642km for Camp Quality! đź’›

Last year, we were lucky enough to welcome Camp Quality to our center for the first time. Their visit helped us build awareness around childhood cancer and, importantly, understand how we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment for children and families experiencing cancer.

This cause feels especially close to our hearts. Our amazing Toddler educator is currently navigating an incredibly challenging journey as she cares for her daughter, who is undergoing treatment for childhood cancer. It has reminded us just how much support, understanding and kindness can mean during such a challenging time. So, we’ve decided to take on a challenge of our own — walking 642km and raising funds for the incredible Camp Quality!

Every step we take and every dollar we raise will help Camp Quality deliver their amazing services and programs to children facing their own cancer diagnosis, or supporting someone they love through cancer.

Today, we’d like to express our heartfelt gratitude to our wonderful team at Goodstart Marleston — the incredible educators who bring heart, passion and purpose to their work every single day.
Thank you for nurturing children’s learning and development, embracing their endless “Why?” questions, guiding them with care, and most importantly, listening to and advocating for their voices.

We were so grateful to receive an abundance of beautiful messages from our families and community. Each message was a wonderful reminder of the impact our educators make and what truly great educators every single one of you are.

Each of you makes a difference.

Ever had one of those "What should I be doing with my child?" moments? You might already have the answer at home.

Earlier this year, every Goodstart family received a What & When for Families guide for each child. If it's been tucked away in a drawer since then, now might be the perfect time to pull it back out.

The guide is packed with simple, play-based activities that support your child's learning and development at home. Best of all, it's written in your child's voice, with ideas tailored to their age and developmental stage.

From singing songs with babies and playing peek-a-boo, to "I Spy" games, storytelling and treasure hunts with older children, the activities are designed to fit naturally into everyday moments you already share together.

We know learning doesn't only happen in the classroom. Those small moments at home can help build big communication, language and literacy skills.

Take another look through your What & When for Families guide to explore age-appropriate activities and learning ideas you can try together.

Book Week Parade 2026

What a wonderful day celebrating Book Week with our special Book Week Parade! Children from Nursery to Preschool came together for a joyful parade, group story time, nursery rhymes and plenty of singing and actions.

Our curious little minds from the Nursery and Toddler rooms were thrilled to welcome the City of West Torrens Mobile Library back to Goodstart Marleston!
Now in its third year of visiting our centre, the Mobile Library continues to bring the joy and magic of books right to our children. They had the wonderful opportunity to climb inside the big library truck, explore the space and listen to some beautiful stories read by the amazing librarian, Mel. The excitement continued as Mel joined us in the yard to share more stories with the children, creating a wonderful opportunity for connection, imagination and a love of reading.
We are so grateful for our ongoing partnership with the City of West Torrens Mobile Library and for the wonderful experiences they provide for our children. We can’t wait for the next visit!

One of our beautiful families surprised us with such a thoughtful surprise, and we are truly touched by their kindness. Thank you for your generosity and for taking the time to leave such a heartfelt review about our service.

It has been an absolute privilege to watch your little one grow from a tiny 6-month-old baby into such a confident, capable, and involved learner. Being part of his early years has been a wonderful journey, filled with so many special milestones, discoveries, and memories.

Today, our Educational Leader had the privilege of attending a professional development session on the Architectural Role of Pedagogy, presented by Goodstart’s Chief Children’s Officer, Professor Catherine Neilsen-Hewett.

The session highlighted the vital role of Educational Leaders as pedagogical leaders and advocates for children’s learning. Together with fellow Educational Leaders across South Australia, we reflected on how we can enrich children’s play by moving beyond simply extending experiences to intentionally deepening learning.

We were reminded of the rich learning that occurs when educators take on the role of a co-learner, engaging with small groups of children while thoughtfully knowing when to step in and when to step back. We also had the opportunity to explore a range of rich provocations developed by the Goodstart Practice Team, which inspired deeper thinking about creating meaningful learning experiences that extend children’s curiosity, agency, and engagement.
