For Reconciliation Week, the kindy children started their day with a Welcome to Country story. They then participated in a coloured rice activity, where they discussed the meaning of the colours of the Aboriginal Flag. The children learnt that black represents the Aboriginal people, yellow represents the sun, and red represents the land. This then transitioned into a sensory experience where the children mixed the colours together.
Our final experience was creating a โTree of Handsโ. The educators painted their hands in the colours of the Aboriginal Flag and transferred the paint onto the trunk of the tree. The children then chose their favourite colours, using their handprints to create the leaves.
These experiences encouraged a collaborative learning approach between the children and educators, while supporting conversations around culture, connection, and belonging during Reconciliation Week.

The Preschool children had a special visitor yesterday! Bug, from Kimochis came and put on a live show about feelings.
We had introduced this character to the children last week, explaining that Bug is shy and that being kind helps Bug feel brave. So, when the children saw Bug, they were so excited and helped Bug feel brave and welcomed.

We are so excited to have partnered with Kimochis for the 3-year-old Preschool Program! Kimochis focuses on playful ways to help children learn how to express their feelings. When children can communicate their feelings effectively, they develop positive social skills that lead to lasting friendships and are useful in all aspects of life.
On Friday we welcomed one of the Kimochi characters, Bug. Bug is shy and needs to feel comfortable before opening up. The children were kind and introduced themselves to help Bug feel brave. The children will continue developing their relationship with Bug and learning how to welcome new friends to our centre.
We also looked at some real bugs that some of the educators found when collecting some grass for a nature table. At first the children struggled to see them, but as they got closer the children described what the bugs looked like and that one was sleeping while the other bug was eating ๐.
The educators then linked this back to our friend, Bug, and that we need to be kind and gentle to help our friends feel brave ๐.

Yesterday Tamicka and Ina were able to attend the OECD leaders conference and connect with other leaders and receive new learnings with regards to the 3-year-old preschool program.
We were very proud to have had Ina asked to present our journey through the program to others who are on the same journey. Ina was able to express the gratitude and impact that all our educators had felt through embarking on a professional development journey (not to mention all the new wonderful resources we have been able to get for our children).
Ina spoke about educators being the lighthouse for children and creating a spark for children's learning. We are very proud of Ina, and the whole team felt proud to have our centre represented in such a special way โจ.

We have been focusing on loose parts play and recycling at the centre โป. The children have loved using their imagination and having fun with the items our lovely families have been donating to us.
The nursery children turned some cardboard tubes into telescopes ๐ญ. They also had fun with a cardboard box we cut a hole into. They were enjoying placing objects inside the box, some children even popped their heads in to have a look!
The toddler children made a little house out of a large cardboard box complete with a door and a window ๐ .
