I had the privilege of working with High Spirits Harmony this morning. A choir inspired to develop knowledge of vocal technique and vocal qualities to improve their personal skill and ensemble blend. Such a pleasure to work with such beautiful singers. Thank you for inviting me!
So much of my work in the studio comes back to this.
In performance training, we often focus on doing more, pushing harder, or chasing perfection. But peak performance isn’t created through panic, pressure, or overthinking. It’s built through mindful and conscious practice AND they are not the same thing.
🧘♀️Mindfulness is presence. It’s noticing. Listening. Feeling. Becoming aware of what is happening in your body, breath, voice, thoughts, and emotions without judgement.
💪🏻Conscious practice is intentional skill development. It’s isolating a skill, seeking feedback, making adjustments, and repeating with purpose.
One develops awareness. The other develops mastery.
When performers learn to combine both, something powerful happens: ✨ greater self-awareness ✨ more efficient learning ✨ improved vocal and performance outcomes ✨ reduced anxiety and overwhelm ✨ access to flow, confidence, and peak performance
The goal is not perfection. The goal is presence, adaptability, and growth.
Because sustainable excellence comes from learning how to be fully present while consciously refining your craft.

This Easter, I’m leaning into the power of pause, rewind, and reset.
So often we move through life in constant “go mode.” Frequently giving, doing, performing, holding it all together.
But our nervous system needs moments of stillness.
When we pause, we allow the body to soften.
The breath deepens.
The shoulders drop.
The mind quiets.
This is not doing nothing.
This is regulation.
This is repair.
This is wellbeing.
Taking time to rewind allows us to reflect on what we’ve been carrying - the stress, the emotions, the stories sitting in the body and the voice.
And in the reset, we create space for something new:
more calm, more clarity, more connection.
Sometimes the most healing thing we can do is simply stop long enough to hear ourselves again.
This Easter, give yourself permission to rest, breathe, and begin again.
Pause.
Rewind.
Reset.
Your voice, body, and nervous system will thank you.

This week | stepped back into acting after nearly 20 years. Even with 30 years of performing and teaching voice...
my brain still tried to tell me all five of these lies.
1) You’re too old
2) Everyone else will be better than you
3) You will embarrass yourself
4) You’ve lost it
5) Stay where it is safe
✨The work is noticing them and choosing courage anyway. ✨
