This is a fantastic resource for psychologists to assist them in diagnosis of SLDs.

There are also free parent resources for those wanting to understand the process of diagnosis and what to do next...

I’m excited to share something that Flourish has been quietly developing over the past year.

As psychologists, assessing for Specific Learning Disorders (SLDs) requires far more than administering tests and checking criteria. It involves understanding developmental history, interpreting patterns across academic skills, considering instructional history, and translating findings into meaningful recommendations for families and schools.

To support this process, I’ve developed the SLD Assessment Resource Kit for Psychologists.

The kit brings together a range of tools designed to support each stage of the assessment process, including:
• A comprehensive guide to understanding SLDs and DSM-5-TR diagnostic criteria (including a quick start guide for those Psychologists just needing a quick visual guide to the assessment process)
• A structured diagnostic decision tree and guide
• Assessment planning and observation tools including a tick and flick observation sheet and interpretative table (answering the "what does this mean" question)
• Case examples illustrating clinical reasoning in practice
• A recommendations bank to support targeted interventions and accommodations
• Parent information sheets to help families understand assessment outcomes and next steps

The aim is to help psychologists approach SLD assessments with greater clarity, consistency, and confidence, while still allowing space for clinical judgement.

Thanks to John Gardner MP for sharing this today. If anyone wants to be involved in public consultation with Renewal SA on the Magill University site and the land across the road please look at the attached photos.

Community members are being invited to share their views and provide feedback on the high-level vision, key attributes and opportunities for the site as well as to provide their ideas for future uses for Murray House:

in person at drop-in sessions where they can view and provide feedback, while meeting and talking with Renewal SA project team members and its planners, OR
anytime online at https://renewalsa.mysocialpinpoint.com between 9 November and 1 December 2024. (NOTE: The Magill engagement page on Social Pinpoint will only appear under ‘current’ engagement when that page goes live on 9 November. It will not be accessible before that date. I will certainly be sending a reminder email at this time! JG)

The two community drop-in sessions are being held on Saturday 9 November (between 11:am and 2:00pm) and Tuesday 12 November (between 4:00pm and 7:00pm) at the Student Lounge Cafeteria (building A) UniSA Magill Campus. Community feedback will help develop the Magill Campus Structure Plan for further community engagement early / mid 2025.

You can find out more by emailing [email protected] or calling: 1800 993 439 – and also to subscribe on Magill webpage https://renewalsa.sa.gov.au/projects/magill -and-community to be kept updated on progress of the planning as well as future engagement opportunities.

Reposting (with a bit for my grandies)
Following on from the news that a school banned a child with autism participating in a school trip I feel the need to write this. There are boys and girls that nobody invites to birthdays for example, (including my grandkids on most occasions). There are kids who want to belong to a team but don't get selected because it is more important to win than include these children. Children with special needs are not rare or strange, they only want what everyone else wants: to be accepted !! Can I ask a question?? Is there anyone willing to copy and paste this post to their wall without sharing it, like I did for a friend??
