🌧️ Rainy Day English: How to Describe the Weather Like a Native Speaker! ☔

Ever looked out the window and wondered how to describe the weather beyond just saying "It's raining"?

From light sprinkles to full-on downpours, here are the most common and natural phrases to level up your weather vocabulary! 👇

🌦️ 1. Light Rain (Barely need an umbrella)

It’s drizzling / spitting: Very light, fine rain.

🗣️ "You don't need a big jacket, it's only drizzling outside!"

🌧️ 2. Moderate to Heavy Rain (Definitely need an umbrella!)

It’s pouring / It's coming down: Steady, heavy rainfall.

🗣️ "Take an umbrella! It’s really coming down out there."

Bucketing down: A super common everyday phrase when rain is falling hard and fast.

🗣️ "We’re going to get soaked—it’s bucketing down!"

⛈️ 3. Extreme Rain & Casual Slang

Pi***ng down: Super casual (and extremely popular in Australia & the UK!). Use this with friends when it's torrential!

From Marvel Movies to Making Aussie Mates in Adelaide! 🕷️

Meet Hibiki (21), a university student from Japan who took a gap year in Adelaide to level up his career prospects, master real-world English, and break out of his shell!

Here is how his time at Native English College transformed his confidence and global mindset:

🍜 The Tokyo Station Encounter: Before coming to Australia, Hibiki spotted a lost American tourist in Tokyo who had lost his phone and money. Hibiki stepped up, gave him 500 yen, took him out for cheap beef bowls at Matsuya, and practiced English for the first time. They are still close friends today!

Finding Home in Adelaide: Finding Adelaide's relaxed vibe similar to his hometown of Hiroshima, Hibiki quickly plugged into the local community. Through student language exchanges at UniSA, he made great Aussie mates and experienced just how warm and helpful locals are whenever he needed a hand.

🚀 Overcoming Shyness: The friendly, supportive atmosphere at NEC helped Hibiki make a massive personal breakthrough.
