I fell down a little rabbit hole tonight and discovered The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows, a collection of invented words for emotions we experience but don't always have language for.
And this one stopped me:
Énouement ✨
The bittersweet feeling of arriving in the future, seeing how everything turned out, but not being able to go back and tell your past self.
There is something beautiful about that.
We spend so much time worrying about decisions while we're standing inside them. Wondering if we're choosing the right path, working too much, dreaming too big, changing direction too often, saving enough, doing enough, being enough.
Meanwhile, somewhere ahead of us is a version of ourselves who already knows how this chapter ends.
I've been thinking a lot lately about future Jodie. ❤️
I want the things I'm doing now to give her choices. I want her to have worked hard, but also have a life she actually gets to enjoy. I want her to travel, learn, laugh, have financial security, spend time with the people she loves and be able to look backwards and think:
You didn't know exactly where you were going... but you kept going anyway.
Maybe that's enough.
And if I could send anything backwards to past Jodie, it would probably just be:
Keep going. Some of the things you're worrying about right now work themselves out in ways you can't see yet. ❤️
