Learning to spell isn’t about memorising long lists - it’s about noticing what looks right and having the courage to try.
When students learn to use common, reliable sound patterns, they start constructing words independently instead of freezing or giving up.
This reel shows how we can guide them to:
- Spot the correct spelling
- Choose the most likely pattern
- Make smart, phonics-based attempts
- Build confidence through supported risk‑taking
Step thinking isn’t innate - it’s a skill we teach 🧠
In school, it’s easy for this to be skipped because adults can see the logical pathway much faster than students can. But young learners need time and space to break tasks down, notice patterns, and explore different ways to approach a problem.
Before we expect them to tackle complex concepts, we need to make sure they know how to unpack the information in front of them, whether that's a colour pattern or the requirements of an essay. Teaching step thinking builds confidence, independence, and real critical thinking.

Active rest > passive rest when you’re studying 📚
Active rest doesn’t mean exercising or being “productive.” It simply means stepping away from your study space and giving yourself intentional, guilt‑free downtime!
A short nap, reading for pleasure, watching a show, sitting outside, stretching, anything that lets your brain switch off properly.
Passive rest (scrolling at your desk, zoning out in the same spot) keeps your brain in study mode, so it’s not truly restorative.
If you want better focus and less burnout, build in short, intentional breaks away from your study zone. Your brain will thank you 🤩

For something to truly be learnt, students need to be actively involved.
Passive learning leads to passive retention, active learning leads to long term retention. 🧠🎓

Welcome back to school for 2026! 🎉📚
The holidays always fly by, and suddenly it’s time for early mornings, packed lunches, and finding that one missing shoe again. But there’s something exciting about this time of year too, it's a fresh chance for students to surprise themselves with what they can do!
If your child is heading back feeling a bit unsure, or just a bit out of practice, that’s completely okay. The first few weeks are all about settling in, finding their feet, and remembering that they can do hard things.
Have an amazing first week back!

Reflection after tutoring sessions? That sounds a bit boring... 🤔✏️

This quote is a great reminder that people aren’t the problem - inflexible environments are! 🧠
Instead of trying to “fix” someone’s brain, let’s adjust the spaces they live, learn, and work in. When we make our environments more flexible and welcoming, everyone feels like they belong.
