The early years are full of needs.
Meeting those does not mean you are being 'soft', manipulated or unwise. The frequency and intensity of need also doesn't mean you are somehow to blame or that you did something wrong.
An immature brain just needs a lot a lot A LOT of regulating - by you.
Well done to everyone out there with a little one, doing their best to meet needs day and night. You are doing exhausting but incredible work. It may feel unseen, unappreciated and pointless, but it's the opposite of that - it couldn't be more significant. It's foundational in the life of your little person. So - well done.

It is so important to get your little one out in the sunshine every day! When your little one is exposed to natural light, their bodies will produce serotonin - the happy awake hormone. When it is dark, serotonin converts to melatonin, the sleepy hormone 🌜 This will help them fall asleep and stay asleep!
Tip 1: Expose your little one to natural light in the morning to help set their circadian rhythm
Tip 2: If your little one is struggling to fall asleep at night time, take them outside in the late afternoon to get a boost of serotonin. This will then be ready to turn into melatonin when you take them to their dark bedroom for sleep

Have you ever said "my little one has ALWAYS been a bad sleeper"?
If yes, then I want to chat with you!!
When parent's have been struggling with their little ones sleep since their child was born, this is a big red flag for me 🚩
Sleep is a normal biological function and should not be that difficult to achieve. Whilst sleep is not linear and you will always have ups and downs, if you have been struggling with sleep since day dot and nothing seems to be working, there is usually an underlying reason at play.
Poor sleep is just a symptom so without knowing the cause behind it, it can be difficult to address.
During all my one on one consultations I go through a range of different questions to navigate what is actually causing your little one to have sleep issues.
If you would like to chat further to see if your little one fits into this category, send me a DM 💞

Your child will go through multiple nap transitions in the first year of their life. As a newborn, their naps are so sporadic and each and every day can be different. Once your little one is around 3 months old, their naps may be a little more predictable. This is because of the development of the circadian rhythm and day sleep cycles. From here, they may begin taking 3 regular naps per day and gradually drop these to only 1 nap by 14-18 months of age.
Navigating when to drop these naps and how to help your little one’s transition smoothly can be tricky. Check out my nap transitions blog for some tips on how to get through it 💞

What are some signs that my baby is sleepy? 🧐
There are many signs that your baby is sleepy.
>Some babies get cranky and irritable.
> Other babies rub their eyes, pull on their ears, or twirl their hair.
>And some babies simply zone out and start to stare off into space.
Follow your baby's age appropriate awake windows and learn your baby’s signs of when they are sleepy. You can find a copy of my free newborn awake windows by checking out the resources section of my website – link in bio

The four month sleep regression occurs between 4 and 6 months of age and this is a permanent neurological change in your little one's sleeping patterns 👶
It is triggered due to the maturation of the circadian rhythm and sees sleep cycles change from newborn 4-6 hourly sleep cycles to 2 hour sleep cycles overnight. These are marked by a brief waking at the end of each sleep cycle where your baby will subconsciously check their surroundings to ensure everything is optimal.
With the circadian rhythm now being fully developed, your little one can begin to accrue sleep debt. This means that short cat naps during the day may no longer be enough and they need at least one opportunity for a consolidated day nap. (Be sure to grab my free catnapping guide - link in bio) Without this, cortisol levels in their body will promote the release of adrenaline, causing their partial arousals to be full wake ups overnight.
Helping your baby develop healthy sleep habits and associations will allow them to be able to self-settle themselves between sleep cycles.
Despite this regression, you should continue with your chosen settling method and stay on track with your sleep routine. Putting your little one to bed confidently can also help to reduce the impact as children emulate your feelings.
✨Expect this regression to last anywhere from 2-6 weeks and sometimes even longer✨
