Platypus Month in the Atelier 🌿

As part of our Platypus Month explorations, the children in Classroom 4 were invited into the Atelier to wonder, investigate and share their ideas about this unique Australian animal. Through conversations and close observation, the children noticed that the platypus has four legs, brown fur, a large bill and a tail. Using watercolours and black textas, the children represented their thinking in their own individual ways, making thoughtful choices about colours, shapes and details.

It was beautiful to see each child’s ideas unfold through the language of art, with every creation telling its own story. The children confidently shared their thinking, demonstrating curiosity, creativity and a strong sense of themselves as capable and confident learners.

🌈 Bullying No Way Week – Classroom 2 🌈

The children in Classroom 2 explored the community event Bullying No Way Week. The children engaged in a creative art experience, using a variety of brightly coloured crayons to draw their own creations on craft paper.

Through this experience, the children explored the importance of inclusion, kindness, respect and celebrating everyone’s differences. The children were encouraged to create artwork that represented a community where everyone feels welcomed, valued and included.

It was wonderful to see the children express their ideas and creativity while developing an understanding that everyone belongs and deserves to feel safe, respected and included.

Classroom 4 Meets Our Local Firefighters!

Today, our Classroom 4 children had an exciting opportunity to meet the wonderful firefighters from Golden Grove Fire Station!

The children learnt all about fire safety, including what to do in an emergency and the importance of knowing how to call 000.

They also had the chance to get up close and explore the fire truck, see some of the equipment firefighters use, and even have a turn using the fire hose!

It was such a fun and hands-on learning experience, helping the children build their understanding of community helpers, safety and what firefighters do to keep us safe.

A huge thank you to the firefighters from Golden Grove for taking the time to visit us and share your knowledge with our children!

🚦✨ What an incredible adventure for our Classroom 3 explorers! ✨🚲

Yesterday, our little learners headed off to the Road Safety Centre for a day packed with fun, discovery, and hands-on learning!

The excitement began with a guided walk around the mini road network, where the children became road safety detectives, learning all about traffic lights, road signs, pedestrian crossings, and how to stay safe while out and about.

Then came everyone's favourite part... bike time! After being fitted with helmets, the children eagerly hopped on their bikes and confidently navigated the roads, stopping at signs, giving way, and practicing safe riding skills just like real road users! It was wonderful to watch their confidence grow with every lap as they cheered each other on.

After all the adventure, we gathered together to enjoy a delicious picnic lunch before reflecting on our favourite moments from the day.

Classroom 2 have been exploring their Inquiry Project Exploring Our Five Senses.

Their inquiry project has been inspired by the children’s voices and their curiosity about the world around them. We have begun exploring our sense of sight, following the children’s interest in what they can see.

This week, our nook area was transformed into an immersive ocean experience using blue lighting and projected ocean scenes. As the children explored the space, their excitement filled the room with comments such as, “Look, a shark!”, “Wow!”, and “Turtle!” as they noticed different sea creatures swimming across the walls.

These open-ended provocations encourage the children to observe, wonder, share their ideas, and make meaning through their own discoveries as we continue following their interests and extending their learning.

Last Tuesday, our Family Advocate was spending time in Classroom 3, chatting with the children while they played and admired the artwork displayed throughout the room. During the conversation, one of the children shared how much they loved drawing pictures for their grandparents. This soon led to a heartfelt discussion about the special things they like to give their Nanna and Poppa.

One child proudly shared that they loved picking flowers to give to their grandparents, while another spoke about taking flowers to their Nanna when she was in hospital. It was such a beautiful reminder of the love, empathy and compassion our children already have.

Inspired by this conversation, our leadership team wondered how we could help the children share that kindness with others. We invited our children in Classrooms 3, 4 and 5 to create flowers for grandparents who may not have family visiting them in hospital.

By Friday, our children had lovingly created five beautiful bunches of handmade flowers, each one carefully crafted with love, creativity and thoughtfulness.

Today, we had the privilege of delivering these bouquets to the wonderful staff and patients in the Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM) Ward at Modbury Hospital.

We hope these colourful flowers brought smiles, comfort and a little sunshine to everyone who received them.

This experience is a wonderful example of how children's voices inspire meaningful learning and real acts of kindness within our community. Sometimes, all it takes is listening to a simple conversation to create something truly special.

We are so incredibly proud of our children for showing that even the smallest hands can make the biggest difference
