A Symphony of Stories was this year’s theme for Book Week.

At Abbotsford it is a close call as to who enjoys the day more, the students or the teachers.

This year, teachers went all out to dress to the theme. From conductors to cellists, to channeling the piano, the teachers rocked.
Students were the best we have ever seen.

The theme inspired amazingly creative designs and parents and grandparents outdid themselves. From 3D printed Medusa heads to papier mache pears, parents deserve their own certificates of accomplishment.

The Wiggles in their Big Red Car made a surprise visit and supported the Dolphin crew from Abbotsford Long Day Care.

Parents were out in force with the playground flooded with parents out in force to enjoy the spectacularly bright day.

This morning we received news from
Cricket Australia that Elsa Hunter and Lauren Cheatle from the Sydney Sixers WBBL team would be coming down to the Have a Blast Girls Cricket program this afternoon to meet the girls and play some cricket with them!

Teachers working late into the afternoon, were treated to the joyous screams and shouts of students as they played alongside elite athletes.

Thank you to Cricket Australia for providing such an entertaining skills program. Hopefully they have sown the seeds for future competitive cricket players.

The early morning inclement weather did not deter the crowds from attending Ferrogusto. There were queues of people in all directions lining up for tasty treats and great shopping.

The school rock band, Endless Flight played five rock anthems on the FerraComunitá stage. The cohesive band had the crowd clapping in time, as the instrumentalists and singers complemented each other to provide an amazing performance.

Nancy Sinatra would have been proud of, "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'". The crowd was energised by the music and everyone was tapping in time to the music.

Yesterday, our local long day care and preschool friends joined us for a Teddy Bear’s Picnic.
Our student leaders created a wonderful morning of art and craft, games and music, based on the Teddy Bear theme.
The prospective students were able to experience our beautiful grounds first hand.
At the end of the session every child took home a tiny teddy bear in a can.
We can’t quite bottle all the fabulous things we do at Abbotsford but the list of ingredients gives an idea of the quality learning we provide, in exceptional surroundings.

Last night, students from Abbotsford PS performed in the Festival of Choral Music, Bennelong Concert at the Sydney Opera House.

3-6 Choir Director, Mrs Anderson accompanied by Ms Takasaki spent the first part of the day rehearsing with the Combined Schools Choir. After a short break, dining around the harbour, it was back inside for an evening of sophisticated musical entertainment.

From the first joint choir item to the last with the stage band, the audience was captivated throughout.

A highlight of the evening was Edward Mc playing Estrellita, (Mexican ‘little star’) on the violin. At just twelve years of age, he made his Sydney Opera House debut centre stage, with just a pianist accompanying him.

The Opera House has hosted Ray Chen and many other world renown violinists. Edward gave them notice that he is looking to fill their shoes. His name was on his dressing room door. He hopes to keep it there!

Thank you to the Arts Unit for providing this magnificent opportunity to public schools.

Today, Princess Gavin organised for Morris Gleitzman to speak to students in Years 3-6.
The renowned author had students mesmerised as he talked about the process of writing.

He spoke to them as authors in their own right, and about the hardest part of writing, the physical process of starting to craft words on paper.

The highlight of the day was an excited Mr Vas who knelt at the feet of the master. A 12 year old Christopher Vasilescu from Winmalee, many moons ago wrote a review of his book, Toad Rage, stating it was inspirational.

Still an avid fan of his writing, he was able to get Morris Gleitzman to sign the review, which will be framed and go straight to the pool room.

Today was the start of Education Week.
The theme this year is ‘Inspire Excellence. At the opening of the new Downtown playground, students and parents created stars which outlined aspirational goals.

After the cutting of the ceremonial ribbon by Signora Wilkins,our longest serving teacher, our Junior Dance and Drama groups led our festivities.

The choir accompanied on guitar by Mr Vasilescu, then sang an exquisite rendition of our school song. Reduced a number of parents to tears.

After our early morning start with parents mingling alongside the coffee cart, everyone headed off to classrooms to see ‘inspiring excellence’ in action.

An amazing team of landscapers worked hard over the holidays to rejuvenate the Downtown kindergarten playground.

Now parents and visitors are given a warm welcome as they walk up the new pathway.

A huge sandpit is waiting for students to create wondrous landscapes.

Two teepee are at the ready for imaginative play.

The yarning circle is waiting for eager readers to sit in the dappled sun and supercharge their literacy skills.

The garden area will formally opened during Education Week, we are just letting the new grass get a good grip before it feels the patter of little feet.

Today we had an unexpected visit from the Granville Boys Pipe Band, accompanied by Principal Noel Dixon.

The school (and neighbours ) were treated to a stirring rendition of Amazing Grace.

Students were mesmerised by the bagpipes and the extraordinary noise they could generate.

A delightful highlight on which to end the term.

Stage 1 students had a wonderful excursion to the Old School House as part of their learning about changes in the community over time. They were transported back to “olden times” and discovered what school was like when students used an ink well and pen to practise writing formal letters for hours on end.
The class was fascinated by the classroom fire, the chores students were expected to help with, and the formal, strict lessons that took place.
They were shocked when the ‘ teacher’ produced the cane and explained how it was used to instil discipline.

They were amazed by how different school life was and returned full of questions and ideas. The students were captivated throughout the day, and their behaviour was exemplary.
