Die KI-VO verbietet bestimmte Praktiken – doch was bedeutet das konkret und wie tragfähig sind diese Verbote in der Praxis? Im Kurs „Forbidden AI“ arbeiten wir uns vertieft in Artikel 5 KI-VO ein und stellen uns (unter anderem) die grundsätzliche Frage, ob Recht ein geeignetes Instrument ist, um den Herausforderungen durch KI zu begegnen – für Demokratie, Wirtschaft und Klima.

The AI Act prohibits certain practices – but what does that mean in concrete terms, and how robust are these prohibitions in practice? In the course „Forbidden AI,“ we take a deep dive into Article 5 AIA and ask ourselves (among other things) the fundamental question of whether law is a suitable instrument for addressing the challenges posed by AI – for democracy, the economy, and the climate.

Take the opportunity to compete in one of the world’s largest and most prestigious moot courts, with the European rounds held in Paris and the international rounds in Oxford. 🇫🇷 🇬🇧

In this year’s case, participants are asked to address a range of issues at the intersection of international human rights, media law and digital law, exploring freedom of expression and the right to privacy in the context of political and health related disinformation, online anonymity and the alleged doxxing of public officials.

🧬 ID Law hosted BBMRI.at & BBMRI-ERIC joint workshop on Informed Consent in Biobanking 🧬

💻 The internal workshop, hosted by BBMRI.at partner University of Vienna (UNIVIE) on the 8th of September, focused on the discussion of a participant information sheet (P*S) and informed consent (IC) form to be used in a biobanking setting, which have been developed by BBMRI-ERIC.

Join Prof. Florian Möslein’s team at the Department of Innovation and Digitalisation in Law at the University of Vienna!
As a University Assistant (Prae-Doc), you will contribute to building a new academic team and conduct research at the intersection of private law and digitalisation, with particular interest in topics such as platforms, crypto tokens and artificial intelligence. Alongside contributing to research and teaching, you will work towards completing your doctoral dissertation.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁:

* An excellent Master’s/Diploma degree in law qualifying for doctoral studies
* Demonstrated knowledge and interest in private law and the law of digitalisation
* Strong interest in international and interdisciplinary research
* Ideally, initial experience in teaching, research projects, publications and academic conferences
* Excellent German and English skills (C1) and knowledge of at least one additional foreign language
* Strong communication and teamwork skills and the ability to work independently

👥 Bringing together experts from government, academia, industry and civil society to discuss how children can be better protected online.

The forum focuses on strengthening the skills of young users to engage with social media in a safe environment. The discussion aims to identify key risks, develop recommendations for regulators and industry, and strengthen cooperation for safer digital environments. This debate has already prompted legislative proposals in several EU Member States, including Austria.

Participants will examine current risks and discuss practical legal solutions from a comparative perspective. Expected outcomes include a shared understanding of key risks, policy options such as age assurance, clear recommendations for regulators and industry, and the establishment of a network for future cooperation.
