First, we must work in our individual body, without any escape, since this body is the very place where consciousness connects with Matter.

Relaxation, to relax = make or become loose or slack

We are here dealing with what is probably one of the most misused words in the language. Nowadays, people who are aware of being what they call “tense” are apt to talk as if tension were bad and relaxation good. We need both, properly distributed, all the time, as long as we live, even when we are asleep.

…. the distribution of tension and relaxation is constantly changing and very complex – much too complex, in fact, to be dealt with by direct interference….

…. By relaxing, you can drop some part of you that you have previously lifted; you can drop an object by ceasing to hold it; or you can fall to the ground ….

…. The rest of our actions are accomplished by muscular contraction, by muscles pulling on bones, thereby causing them to move in relation to other bones….

…. Nature does not permit complete relaxation – luckily for us.

A “constricted” brain cannot create a flow of movement or openness in a “constricted” body.

Remembering Noam:
If you want to be right, you create a “corset” of your own habitual mental attitude. You are creatively not following the process that you originally initiated and consciously made a decision to follow.
Be ready to be wrong.

The way and the process in the Alexander Technique means, “sticking to a decision against your habits of life”; it is necessary to continue to follow the way, as a whole, to sharpen – within the process – the total awareness. Then the ground is fertile for the continuation of the exploration, is ready for further discoveries along the way.
