Beastly Palaces
The summer semester studio díazmoreno garcíagrinda will be dedicated to investigating the intersections between the constructions and environments consciously made by humans, and the spaces we share and interact with other species. In particular, those that attempt to transcend the purely utilitarian character to create a space of mutual benefit, in which to dissolve the exploitative situations created by the imbalance of power between species.
Through a combination of theoretical inquiry, critical contextual study and investigation, design exploration and material research, students will engage with the definition of an artificially materialised space or medium, that aims to shelter an existing or emerging biocenosis, or a mutually conditioned community of species sharing a habitat, which includes humans are one of the inhabitants. We therefore intend to revisit the spaces of real interaction between different species, and to examine the role of architecture in such relationships, and how speculating on new types of interspecies relationships leads us to rethink the way we understand and design our spaces.
Invited Guests: John McMorrough , Ben Reynolds .lac.e , Lorenzo Perri

Exceptionalities for all - A bestiary of idealized spaces.
This semester, studio diazmoreno garciagrinda will work on unconventional domesticities based on the notions of paradise, pursuing the task of designing a communal home.ravelling. Not only has tourism transformed coastal ecosystems around the world, but more recently has cannibalised access to decent and affordable living conditions in city centres worldwide.
This strange relationship between counter-routine time and the idealisation of paradise has recently been echoed in the silent renunciation of work, the big quit, in the remote and delocalised work forced by the pandemic, calling into question the very notion of permanent housing and its placement, and by extension, tourism.
One of the biggest extractive industries in the world still relies on the idealization of a perfect environment, and the notion of remoteness achieved through the act of traveling. Not only has tourism transformed coastal ecosystems around the world, but more recently has cannibalised access to decent and affordable living conditions in city centres worldwide.ts inhabitants to combine work and rest in a renewed relationship with landscapes that have been exhausted by tourism.
We will revisit the notion of paradise as a place of ideal conditions and coexistence with other species. An ideal environment with the perfect temperature and an abundance of food. A place where no objects are needed. A world without danger or apparent physical exertion. A domain where the suspension of time is determined by the - apparent - absence of routine.
