Stefan Zahlmann, born in 1968 in Münster (Germany), studied and graduated at the University of Münster. A full professor of history (History and Theory of Media Cultures (18th-21st century)) at the University of Vienna, he is also vice-dean of the faculty of historical and cultural studies and head of the main research group "Digital Humanities" at the Institute of History.

Thomas Walach works as a research assistant at the Institute of History at the University of Vienna. His research and teaching focus lies on Digital Humanities, Public History and Computer History.

Martin Tschiggerl works as a research assistant at the Institute of History at the University of Vienna. He specializes in Science and Media Theory, Contemporary History and digitization as a cultural phenomenon. His PhD deals with the construction of post-war national identities in Germany (BRD/DDR) and Austria. The following posts present the organizers of the conference. We'll start with Paul Ferstl.
Paul Ferstl studied Comparative Literature and German philology at the Universities of Vienna and Brussels. Currently he works as a lecturer and research associate at the Comparative Literature Institute of the University of Vienna. As part of the FWF project "Ludwig Tiecks Bibliothek. Anatomie einer romantisch-komparatistischen Büchersammlung" he tries to track down Ludwig Tieck's auctioned library. In 2014 he organised the conference "Fantasy Studies" in collaboration with Thomas Walach and Stefan Zahlmann at the University of Vienna. In 2016 he was in charge of the programm coordination for the ICLA conference. His dissertation "Authentizitätsfiktionen der Fingierten: Die US-amerikanische Professional Wrestling-Autobiografie" has just recently been accepted by the University of Vienna.

The Phantastenmuseum, located in Palais Palffy, presents the development of the art movement "phantastischer Realismus" (fantastic realism) with more than 150 paintings of Viennese and international artists.

Stefan Ekman has a PhD in English literature with a thesis on the functions of maps environments in fantasy literature, and an MSc in Economics with a focus on development and environment. He currently works as Research Coordinator for the Humanities at the Swedish National Data Service.
His research is focused on fantasy literature, and his book "Here Be Dragons: Exploring Fantasy Maps and Settings" (Wesleyan UP, 2013) examines various functions of maps and environments in the genre. He currently pursues two projects, exploring social criticism in urban fantasy, and developing world-building as a critical tool for analysing fantasy texts through their worlds. Alongside Farah Mendlesohn Stefan Ekman is one of the keynote speakers at the conference.
He is also a judo black-belt, a keen RPGer, and fairly decent cook

Farah Mendlesohn has authored several books including "The Inter-galactic Playground: A Critical Study of Children's and Teens' Science Fic-tion" (McFarland) and "Diana Wynne Jones: The Fantastic Tradition and Children's Literature" (Routledge). And "Children’s Fantasy Literature: An Introduction", which she wrote with her long time colleague Professor Michael M. Levy.
She won a Hugo with Edward James in 2005 for "The Cambridge Companion to Fantasy Literature". She is currently working on a book on children’s literature, memory and the English Civil War.
