RCE Vienna

Regional Centre of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development Vienna.

The Regional Centre of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development is the regional network for research, education and knowledge interactions on questions related to regional and trans-regional sustainable development. We focus on topics in the realm of socio-economic development and the environment and seek to tackle challenges such as:

- sustainable urban and regional development,
- smart city themes and processes,
- social coherence,
- climate change policies,
- sustainability entrepreneurship and
- collaborative consumption. Vienna has a strong and growing community of initiatives, organizations, universities, companies, people and many others that are active in the field of sustainable development (SD) and education for sustainable development (ESD). They form a vast pool of expertise and may well become one of the leading factors of the development of the Vienna-region towards sustainability. We understand ourselfs as a platform for the exchange of ideas, knowledge and activities between these research institutions, public agencies, enterprises and organizations in the Vienna region. By enhancing transformative education we want to move from sustainability visions to concrete actions and provide impulses towards a sustainable economic development of the Vienna region. To cope with the socio-economic dynamics of the “east-west-interface” of the Vienna region, the RCE Vienna shall be extended to Bratislava and include key-institutions of formal, non-formal and informal education in the Centrope region.
