Can I already speak German with A1?
If you have completed level A1, you can already have simple conversations in German. The A1 level is referred to as basic language usage. It means, for example:
Language Skills at Level A1
You can understand and use simple, short sentences and frequently used expressions.
You can introduce yourself and other people.
You can ask and answer questions about personal details such as place of residence, friends, family, and hobbies.
You can shop in a store, express wishes, and ask about prices.
You can order in a restaurant and know the most important words related to food and drinks.
You can schedule an appointment and apologize for being late.
You can tell the time and describe your daily routine.
You know basic information about the culture of German-speaking countries.
You know differences in language and culture between Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
You can communicate in clear German with little dialect.
You can talk about what you want, need, should, must, can, and may do using modal verbs.
You know the typical word order in German sentences.
You know the intonation for questions, statements, and imperatives.
You can use the imperative to ask or urge others to do or not do something.
You can use both formal (very polite) language and informal language with friends and younger people.
You can express your emotions using modal particles (e.g., mal, denn, doch, ja).
In summary, this means you can communicate in a simple way if your conversation partners speak slowly and clearly.
It is a great start and a solid foundation on which you can build further!
At the end of the A1 course, you can communicate in simple situations but not yet speak fluently. To speak fluently, you should at least complete level B1.

How di I start learning German?
4.Avoid learning apps. They are a waste of time. Put your phone aside as much as possible and listen to people. Try to speak with people. We humans are not robots and do not learn best through exercises on a small screen, but through interaction with other people.
5. Of course, you should use a good online dictionary. Instead of Google Translate, prefer deepl.com or leo.org.
Subscribe to German-language channels on your social media. Just choose topics that interest you, but in German.
6. Don’t try to be perfect. You don’t have to understand everything at the beginning. Your goal should be to understand 30% of what you hear at first. Gradually, you can increase this number.
7. Consistency is key. Engage with German several times a day. Make it a habit to practice German. Watch a short video in German on YouTube at breakfast. Read the advertisements on the subway. Listen to people. Look up a few words from a dictionary every day.

Which resources help me at the beginning of learning German?
3. Search for German-language music on YouTube that you like. There are many types of German music, and you will surely find a singer or a band that you like. Save the lyrics and the translation, and listen to the music until you understand all the words. This way, you will learn the pronunciation of the words very well, and through the connection with the music, the words and sentences will stick in your mind very well. Any kind of music (except Rammstein) is suitable.

How do I start learning German?
1. First, try to collect only words. Words from things you are surrounded by. Food, drinks, clothing, the furnishings in your apartment, objects you deal with every day. Write the words down in a small notebook. Add five to ten new words each day. Read and practice the new words every day. In the morning at breakfast, on the subway, before going to sleep.
2. Go to stores, e.g., supermarkets, clothing stores, or furniture stores, and read the labels of the goods offered. By seeing the things right in front of you, your brain can remember them well.
Sit in cafés and listen to people speaking. Try to recognize individual words and phrases.

How long does it take to learn German fluently?
It depends on each person how quickly they learn a new language. People who speak a language related to German, such as English or Dutch, learn it faster than people who, for example, speak an Asian language. It also helps if you already know the rules of your own language well and perhaps have already learned other languages.
The time it takes to learn German fluently can vary greatly from person to person. Several factors influence how quickly someone can master the language, including their native language and prior experience with other languages. For example, people who speak languages that are closely related to German, such as English or Dutch, tend to learn German more quickly. On the other hand, individuals whose first language is more distant from German, such as an Asian language, may take longer to achieve fluency. Additionally, if you already have a solid understanding of grammar rules in your native language or have previously studied other languages, it can make learning German easier.
As a general estimate, reaching a B2 level of proficiency (upper intermediate) in German usually takes about a year of consistent study. At our school, students can complete the A1 to B2 levels in just 6-8 months. However, language learning requires more than just attending classes. To make faster progress, it is essential to immerse yourself in the language outside of the classroom. Listening to German music, podcasts, radio, and watching TV shows or YouTube videos can help improve listening skills. Speaking German with others on a daily basis and practicing regularly through online exercises will also accelerate your learning.
