My work centers around you, not who you should be. I'll focus on you, the treasure and the gift you are. To let you shine.

Bookshelves are full with "how-to's" on ways to be more effective and successful. The message is: change into someone different, and you'll be successful. Role models tell you: change into someone like me and that you'll be happy. We are told to change ourselves according to what others tell us. When you've found this page you have arrived to a different mindset. I'm here to help you discover that

"Blind spots" are usually areas where our greatest potential for growth lies. To expand on our strengths is good, yet it is mere improvement. Growth and transformation lie in these ‘blind’ areas.
The most difficult step is to make ourselves see that where we think there is ‘nothing,’ there is really our potential - often hidden not only behind 'nothing' but also behind a subconscious 'fear' or old 'pain'.

So, do you truly think you have no blind spots? Read my blog, keep an open mind and you may be surprised!

Work-life balance?
The expression alone suggests that ‘work', 'life’ and ‘balance’ were ‘things’, ‘objects’, ‘stable states’ that we can create, achieve and then put on a pair of balances.
We know that neither is an object and definitely nothing 'stable'.
This mechanistic view lets us fail again and again.

So, why keep on failing? Explore more and think beyond "balance":

We - more or less consciously - "know", "suspect", ''feel deep down" that we are off-balance. And we often think - we just have to try harder!
Yet - the feeling often comes from subconscious pattern, assumptions that drive us - without us 'knowing'.
For example:
• "I should have achieved more today" - An unquestioned list of things; how ever un-realistic this list might be
• “I should be home earlier…” also known as "I really tried to leave office earlier but then ….” Goals are not aligned with the priorities that drive my actions subconsciously
• "Not being good enough" - An underlying unreflected pain, often triggered by compulsory comparing
What it often comes down to is a well-practiced competency of self-deceiving; the idea of how I 'should be' overrides all the treasure that 'I am'.
No wonder we feel 'unbalanced'!

We all know the expressions, "it takes two to make things work," "to tango...," and it also takes two (or more!) to generate and feed situations where people get stuck in defense.
When two parties engage in dysfunctional behavior, it's enough for one of them to step out of their learned habits, for a stuck situation/a routine to get flowing again.
It might sound illogical – but conflict is an opportunity to grow.
How?
• Be aware that you are, for example, arguing quite rationally (and think that’s the best strategy because the other is so emotional).
• Be brave and learn to feel what’s beyond all your facts and figures.
• Discover and analyze the ‘rules’ you have learned about conflicts.
• Step-by-step, work toward changing those rules.

What if I told you that "conflict" is a state of mind that only you can create and maintain?
The moment you decide to rise beyond the "situation," to become aware of your
re-action to whatever the other says/does, then growth can happen.
Most people automatically 'manage' conflict with a learned conflict behavior:
• Placate, calm the other party
• Blame the other party
• Become overly rational, focusing on facts and leaving emotions out
• Talk nonsensically about everything but the issue
Which pattern can you identify with?

'Tis the season to be merry, jolly, and ... have our buttons pushed by loving family members 😎
No matter how old we are, the family still finds that weak spot, the Achilles heel, and somehow makes us feel 5 again, leaving us wondering: how is this still happening? What did I miss? Where is my blindspot?
Most of us turn outwards, wanting and longing for acceptance, recognition, respect ... yet the place to look is really inside of us.

We've all been there: losing track of what someone is communicating because we start making certain judgments in our minds, or, on the flip side, getting uncomfortable sensing how someone is judging us as we speak. So, where do things "go wrong"? What is that is missing from the conversation, and where this can lead?
Judgment, assumption, manipulation (as in leading the conversation with a purpose, to squeeze certain information from someone who may, or may not be aware) can only lead to a faulty process, based, well, on all of the above, starting with judgment.
What can we add? How about being present, love, an open mind?

Listening is more than just hearing sounds. Just like music, which sneaks into our hearts, truly listening to someone is a complex process that requires your whole being, not only your ears.
Seems like such an easy activity, yet, how many times have you found yourself distracted, too tired to pay attention, or too tired of hearing the same thing over and over? Believe it or not, listening is also about results. And what those results might be? Well, effective listening can mean the difference between growing a relationship or making things worse; effective listening can mean experiencing emotions at a different level, relating, showing compassion, giving. And "giving" can be a key word, because the simple act of listening is giving: your time, your awareness, your respect - do you agree?

We have constructed various systems to measure performance, results, IQ - at the end of the day 'worth' - the 'value of a human resource'.

How come we use salary/number of followers/sold copies of whatever/any number you can come up with to determine the worth of a human in society, their contribution to society, to the world?

To measure is one thing, to derive self-worth and social value from it is a totally different thing.
What other ways are there?

I would like to take a moment and ask you: what is knowledge, to you? What does 'knowing' mean to you?
And, to take this further, the knowledge one gains in a lifetime, is it truly theirs? Is my knowledge truly mine? Yours?
I think this view - 'my knowledge', 'my experience', 'my idea' is something, that, at the end of the day, separates us from each other ...

As long as we are guided by results only, by tangible 'purposes', we don't operate in creative mode; we don't improvise, we don't surrender to the process.
What we seem to surrender to, each time, is targets and goals.
What is your vision of a world where people are free to create, and we all build on each other - we are all co-creators?

Co-creating Leadership - How Can We Do That And Why Should We? 05/08/2021

What is co-creating?
The newest episode of my Improvisations on Growth podcast series strives to find answers to this 'simple' question, a process than in itself answered the question, so to speak. This process came together beautifully in collaboration with my guest, Karima Kadaoui, and my podcast's hostess, Adina Arhire.
What was the outcome? We'll leave that up to you to discover - all I can say is that the exploration is also a 'result'.
