1950 – 1970 // Split fiber yarns
In the mid-1960s, a new yarn manufacturing technology emerged:
Plastic films made of Polypropylene and Polyethylene were tensioned to boost strength.
💥 The result? The film split under stress, creating a rough surface — perfect for twisting into split fiber yarn.
This innovation allowed rope makers to replace coarse fibers like sisal, especially in products like baler twines and packing twines — which had been part of the Teufelberger range for many years.
A smart shift in fiber tech that shaped the future of utility ropes but nothing to use for sailing ropes.
