The primary or official language is Swedish. Nearly the entire population of Sweden speak Swedish with most speaking it as a first language and the rest as a second language. The Swedish language is a North Germanic language that closely resembles Norwegian and Danish. Currency is Swedish krona. Sweden is a Scandinavian nation with thousands of coastal islands and inland lakes, along with vast boreal forests and glaciated mountains. Its principal cities, eastern capital Stockholm and southwestern Gothenburg and Malmö, are all coastal. Stockholm is built on 14 islands. It has more than 50 bridges, as well as the medieval old town, Gamla Stan, royal palaces and museums such as open-air Skansen.

High standard of education
Curricula in Sweden are designed to include investigative research at all levels of education, which enhance independent thinking. Sweden is known for its rigorous control on quality of education imparted and has one of the most ambitious evaluation patterns to ensure students graduate with a competitive edge over their peers globally. The fact that Sweden has been bestowing the Nobel Prize since 1895 and has universities like Uppsala and Lund that were set up way back in the 15th century is a testament to its high standards of education. What's more, Sweden's universities are given independence in designing their syllabus. This helps them offer students the newest courses and adapt to the changing market with ease. Besides, Sweden spends nearly 3.6% of its GDP in research, which makes it an excellent place for future researchers. It is no wonder that students from across 80 countries strongly prefer moving to Sweden for PhDs.

Austria - Overview:
The central European republic of Austria is rich in natural beauty, culture, language, and history. Vienna, the capital of Austria and its largest city, is home to over 1.8 million people. Viennese citizens enjoy a city with low crime, rich culture, regular festivals, excellent food, and regular outdoor activities. It comes as no surprise that in 2017, Vienna ranked number one city in the world for quality of life. Other urban areas include the cities of Graz, Linz, Innsbruck, and Salzburg, renowned for its most famous musician, Mozart.
Studying in Austria is a marvelous choice for students interested in foreign language, linguistics, or architecture. The official language of Austria is German, though there is a broad mix of other languages and dialects spoken throughout the country. Austria’s diverse architectural landscape ranges from imposing imperial buildings to spectacular art-deco architecture, mixed in with newer developments built in a contemporary style.
Land-locked Austria shares its border with seven other European countries - Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Italy, Switzerland, and the oft-forgotten Liechtenstein - making it an ideal home for students who wish to spend their free time traveling around Europe. While at home, students will find that Austria’s landscape is dominated by the mountainous heights of the Alps, with barely a third of the country’s terrain sitting below 1,000ft in elevation. The country is home to Europe’s largest lake, Lake Bodensee, and one of the tallest mountains on the continent. Outdoor recreational sports including hiking, cycling, and skiing - both alpine and cross-country - play a major role in Austrian culture.
University System:
The university system in Austria enjoys a long history of excellence in higher education strengthened by a common commitment to state-of-the-art research. Within the university system, there are six types of institutions for higher education: universities, medical universities, arts universities, private universities, universities of applied science, and university colleges. Each year, over 60,000 international students chose to attend university in Austria.
Austrian universities vary in size and structure, and this variety is reflected in the degree programs and study tracts offered at each institution. The more traditional universities in Vienna, Graz, Innsbruck, Klagenfurt, Linz and Salzburg offer a wide range of academic subjects. Austria’s technical and medical universities, on the other hand, concentrate on a range of highly specialized theoretical and applied disciplines. Interdisciplinarity is the central tenant in the university philosophy of education, meaning that all students, regardless of their chosen degree, are exposed to and encouraged to engage in research with colleagues in complementary disciplines.
The degree programs offered by the universities of applied science are targeted at students interested in IT, healthcare management, telecommunications, environmental or industrial management. The focus is on ensuring students are work-force ready upon graduation, with all the necessary qualifications for specific occupations and career fields. Students enrolled at a university of applied science are expected to complete mandatory career-oriented practical training units or job-based internships.
The Austrian University Colleges of Teacher Education offer a three-year (six semester) Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree in combination with a teaching qualification for primary, secondary or special needs schools. Earning a degree from one of these university colleges may assist international students hoping to work in Austria after graduation. But international students wishing to return to home to build a career in education may not find these credentials are sufficient for securing employment.
International Student Admissions
The first step in the admissions process is contacting the Admissions Office of the university you wish to attend. An admissions counselor will be able to give you the exact requirements for international students applying to specific degree programs. Most universities have online applications, or you can request a copy by email from the Admissions Office. Application deadlines are February 5th for Fall matriculation, and September 5th for Spring matriculation.
Non-EU/EEA Students wishing to attend undergraduate university in Austria will have to demonstrate these four basic requirements:
• Proof of nationality (copy of your valid passport)
• Secondary education diploma
• Proof of eligibility to study at an institution of higher education, in your chosen degree, in your country of origin.
• Proof of German language proficiency (equivalent to four years of study at the secondary school level).
For Master’s programs, applicants must first complete a Bachelor’s degree (three-year minimum program) in a relevant field of study.
For Ph.D. programs, applicants must first complete a Master’s degree in the same field.
International Student Visa:
The Austrian government is particularly strict about its student visa requirements. The application process is one of the more complicated processes in Europe. A lot of documentation is required and there is no room for error. Incomplete or late applications will be denied and you will have to start all over. It is important that you give the process the time and attention it requires. And once your permit is approved, your work is not yet done. Students living in Austria on a Student Resident Permit are expected to register with local authorities once they have settled in the country and to abide by any additional regulations on international students that local authorities may prescribe.
The visa application must be submitted in person to the closest Austrian embassy or consulate in your country of origin. Your application will then be forwarded to government officials in Austria who will review, process, and make a determination on your visa. Your visa application packet will include your passport, birth certificate, two passport photos, letter of acceptance from an Austrian university, proof of sufficient funds ($1000/month for twelve months), proof of accommodation (rental agreement), proof of health insurance upon arrival in Austria, and a police clearance certificate (when requested). These documents will be submitted in duplicate, meaning you must submit one set of originals and one set of copies. The fee for a student resident visa and permit is about $150. Also, don’t be surprised if you are asked to have official translations made of all documents not already in German.
