Are you tracking recovery—or just watching numbers? 📊

For endurance and hybrid athletes, recovery monitoring shouldn’t be about chasing a “green” readiness score. It should be about making better training decisions.

In our latest blog, we break down a scientifically grounded approach that combines:

• Composite wellness scores (fatigue, soreness, sleep)
• A structured stress index (perceived helplessness + self-efficacy)
• The simple but powerful PRS (Perceived Recovery Status)
• Wearable data like HRV, resting heart rate, and sleep trends

When you triangulate subjective insight with wearable metrics, you move beyond guesswork. You start interpreting trends relative to your own baseline—reducing overreaching risk, improving consistency, and building sustainable performance.

This isn’t about collecting more data.
It’s about understanding your physiology—and responding intelligently.

When endurance training gets hard, most athletes turn their focus inward — breathing, muscle burn, heart rate, discomfort 😮‍💨

But sports psychology research shows that where you place your attention can change how hard an effort feels, even when your output stays the same 🧠

Focusing on external cues 👀 (terrain, rhythm, power targets, visual markers) has been associated with:
✔️ Lower perceived exertion
✔️ More stable pacing under fatigue
✔️ Smoother, more efficient movement

It doesn’t remove fatigue — but it can stop discomfort from dominating your decisions 🚦

Over long sessions and races, the best athletes don’t stick to one focus. They switch 🔄
External cues during hard segments ⛰️
Internal checks for pacing, fueling, and breathing 🥤

Attention is a trainable skill — just like pacing or nutrition 🎯

When endurance training gets tough, it’s easy to turn your focus inward. You start noticing your breathing, muscle burn, heart rate, and discomfort. While this seems logical, research in sports psychology reveals that where you direct your attention during intense efforts can change how hard the e...

HYROX Athletes competing in Vienna this weekend — try a short-term reset strategy to lower perceived exertion and finish stronger. I recommend a simple sports‑psychology routine for when stations don't go your way. If you find yourself fighting the sled or faced with an unexpected penalty, try this quick strategy: cue the emotional release (anger is fine but do not evaluate the situation), perform a re-centering technique (check your breath, set your gaze ahead, reduce muscle tension where possible), and then cue a tiny micro‑goal to refocus (one more length, hold the current run split, lock in your technique). It’s a technique I find myself going back to in both my coaching practice and research on fatigue resistance. 🔁🚀

Tell me which part helps you most — release, recenter, or micro‑goal?

I still use a digital notepad to track key sessions — and it changes the way I train. Too much passive data generation can distract; a simple notebook keeps you thinking: what did you learn, how did you feel, what will you change next? If you can't remember the last time you asked these questions, try a 4–8 week low‑tech reboot: a dedicated notebook, a quick post‑workout note, and a weekly review. You’ll start asking the “so‑what” questions that turn numbers into better decisions.

If you’re an endurance or hybrid athlete in Vienna looking for coaching that pairs real world experience with critical thinking, drsconditioning offers personalised plans and 1-on-1 training just for you. Want clearer goals and even clearer results? Let’s talk. 💡✍️

Pen, paper, progress. Discover why scaling back to low-tech tracking can make your endurance and hybrid training more intentional and effective. Read the full post by Daniel Smyth: https://wix.to/mosOdcR

When it comes to improving your performance in endurance and hybrid training, it’s easy to get caught up in the latest tech and apps. But I’ve found that sometimes, a scale down to low tech options can be refreshing and effective. While I am not suggesting to give up on data measurment wholesale...

Who is an hybrid athlete? Someone who dominates strength and endurance 🏋🏽🏃🏾🎽

Meet Matteo 🏃‍♂️ a former football player who paused sports for 7 years while pursuing his PhD and is now rediscovering his athleticism.

As a recreational hybrid athlete he is constantly learning new movements and refining old ones to increase strength, endurance, and mobility. Most of all he is having fun challenging himself and enjoying the journey. After losing 5kg and setting multiple PRs in the gym, he recently came 2nd in his local 10km club race.

Congrats Matteo 🥳
