Teaching and learning about Jewish history and culture in the heart of Europe, at CEU Vienna.
The CEU Jewish Studies Program offers an MA specialization that covers the wide expanse of Jewish culture, society and history, with a special emphasis on the ramified Jewish experience in Central and Eastern Europe from early modern times to the present. Together with our partners in Vienna and Budapest, we organize public lectures, conferences, field trips and walking tours, and bring together researchers and scholars of Central European Jewry to present the newest research in the field.

On the second day of our 25-year-anniversary conference, we discussed the future of Jewish Museums and philanthropies, Jewish migration, and the legacies of empire, and welcomed Pieter Judson who delivered a wonderful keynote address.

Our conference marking the 25th anniversary of the CEU Jewish Studies Program kicked off yesterday with a discussion on the turning point of 1989 and its impact on the study of the Jewish experience. We are excited to welcome so many scholars, alumni, students, and friends to celebrate with us and discuss the future of our field!

We were very excited to welcome Prof. Marcin Wodziński (Judaistyka – Uniwersytet Wrocławski) to CEU Jewish Studies, where he taught a short course on Hasidism. Our students truly enjoyed learning from one of the leading scholars in the field and we got a fascinating tour of Hasidic Vienna by Eidel Malowicki.
