From the very beginning of the Vienna Master of Arts in Applied Human Rights, the graduation ceremony has always been one of the most meaningful moments in our calendar. A time of goodbyes and welcomes, where we let go of one group of changemakers ready to step into the world, and open our doors to new, curious minds. ๐Ÿ“š๐ŸŒฟ

But this time felt differentโ€ฆ

Our 12th graduation ceremony carried a special weight ๐ŸŒŸ โ€“ a moment to pause, reflect, and take in everything this journey has meant. It was a time to bring back memories, to close chapters, and to look ahead with even more pride and excitement than ever before.

We were deeply honoured to share this day with extraordinary guests who stood beside us, their wisdom and presence reminding us just how meaningful this program and its legacy truly is.

These photos are dedicated to the ceremony itself โ€“ to the emotions, the words, the music, and the community that made it unforgettable. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ™Œ To our honorary guests โ€“ for your inspiring words of wisdom and encouragement.

Number 12 feels symbolic: a number of completeness and renewal, marking both a beautiful closure and the unfolding of new paths aheadโ€ฆ ๐ŸŒฑ

This is the beginning of the series celebrating the 12th graduation of the Vienna Master of Arts in Applied Human Rights. Each post will feature 12 special moments โ€“ because what better way to honor Generation 12? โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’™

Firstly, we want to take you behind the scenes: the coming together, the pep talks, the final preparations, and the rehearsal before the big day. โœจ You can feel the anticipation, the nerves, the excitement โ€“ all the energy that makes a graduation not just a ceremony, but a performance of hope and courage.

And of course, we couldnโ€™t resist sharing the group pictures; moments that capture just how radiant our graduates are when they stand together, ready to take on the world. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’ซ

Generation 12 brought light, experience, and diversity to our community, enriching it with their wisdom, creativity, and heart ๐Ÿซ‚. We are so proud of what this generation has achieved โ€“ and this is only the beginning.

Stay tuned for the next posts in this series as we relive their unforgettable graduation together.

Inspired by the work of artist Koen Vanmechelen and the environment of LABIOMISTA, they dream, think and discuss new perspectives and ideas. Highlighting our change-makerโ€˜s human rights project: Unbound documentary film project. This compelling human rights initiative traces the journeys of six migrants and refugees living in Vienna. Through a combination of in-depth interviews and immersive glimpses into their daily lives, our film aims to highlight the experiences of q***r migrants and refugees, giving voice to their unique narratives.

In an era of unprecedented q***r migration, Unbound underscores the critical importance of freedom of movement for q***r individuals who are striving to carve out their own paths and build their futures. The themes of q***rness and migration are seamlessly interwoven, portraying lives that challenge societal norms and transcend borders with empathy and nuance. This film stands as a heartfelt tribute to Viennaโ€™s q***r community, offering both meaningful representation and a valuable contribution to the q***r archive in Viennaโ€”a reminder that โ€žwe were here.โ€œ

The Unbound documentary film project is directed and co-produced by Carla Soares Guariglia, with Millie Robinson serving as cinematographer and co-producer. As the project moves into the post-production phase, the team is actively seeking talented main editors, sound editors, colorists, and composers. We also welcome inquiries from potential sponsors and partners.

For collaboration opportunities, please reach out at unbound .com. To stay updated, follow us on Instagram .film or visit our website at camiliasfilms.com/unbound.

On the occasion of International Human Rights Day, we would like to invite you to the press freedom and human rights art installation โ€žDawit Isaak. A Voice from Prisonโ€œ, in which Vienna Master of Arts in Applied Human Rights, University of Applied Arts, Vienna, is a cooperation partner.

Location: Square of Human Rights, Mariahilferstrasse 1, 1070 Vienna

Date: December 9, 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., December 10, 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Official Opening Act: December 9, 10.00 am

Dawit Isaak, the worldโ€™s longest arbitrarily arrested author/journalist, is at the center of the art installation. Based on his fate, attention is drawn to the alarming development of press freedom and the safety of authors and journalists:

A 20-foot shipping container stands at Human Rights Square as a symbol of Dawit Isaakโ€™s imprisonment. Dawitโ€™s monologue sounds from inside. A haunting image emerges... a captivating monologue can be heard.

At the same time, Dawit Isaakโ€™s writings are read at the beginning of the square. People who are currently frequenting the square are addressed and invited to pause, take in the installation, to listen and to actively participate by reading themselves - thereby lending their voice to Dawit.

Interactive event. No registration necessary.

The art installation is part of the press freedom and human rights art project โ€žFreedom for Dawit! Press freedom!โ€œ, which is taking place on the occasion of International Human Rights Day with 3 events at 3 locations in Vienna.

โ€žHow does your future garden look like? Is it green, full of plants? Is it a feeling, a conversation? I was wondering that too, and so I found myself, somewhere in Belgium; for a couple of days; with a bunch of strangers; challenged to think the Unthinkable.
It was an experience, inspired by the space , beautiful people and minds, time and the Arts.โ€œ -One of our change-makerโ€™s, Annaโ€™s, thoughts on the previous event.

Join the presentation and talk about The Unthinkable Experiment on December 10th at Vienna.
