Our X-Reality Lab is officially open! 🎉
At the Staging Realities Festival, visitors were able to experience the whole building with different interactive installations, in collaboration with Schmiede and Ars Electronica.
In the coming days we get to welcome the first students for our newest study programme "Immersive Arts and Digital Narratives" where they will be able to experiment within the X-Reality Lab and all the technological opportunities it provides to create art.

Congratulations to Lea Oltmanns for winning the A⁴ - Austrian Art Alumni Award 2026 🎉

Lea, who is a directing graduate of Thomas-Bernhard-Institut was honored for her theater project “Gossipgirls”, which focuses on gossip and informal communication networks as historical and contemporary spaces of solidarity, trust, and knowledge exchange among FLINTA people*. Through this project, Oltmanns examines a form of communication that is often devalued and explores its social and political significance.

We can’t wait to see how she will further develop this project!

The A⁴ – Austrian Art Alumni Award was first presented in 2025 and is sponsored by the Federal Ministry for Women, Science, and Research Bundesministerium für Frauen, Wissenschaft und Forschung in collaboration with the six public Austrian art universities. The program’s goal is to support outstanding graduates as they transition from their studies to an independent artistic practice.
Each of the six award recipients will receive a grant of 24.000 euros over a period of twelve months. This will enable them to carry out the artistic projects they submitted as part of their applications and to further develop their artistic work.

At only 15 years old, and two years into learning this instrument, our student .bass already plays on a level and with a coolness we can only admire. We can’t wait to see where her artistic journey will take her!

Mozart’s violin meets the Pope ✨ A very special encounter 🎻

For the first time, Mozart’s Dalla Costa violin was brought to Rome and played at the Vatican on the occasion of an invitation to the General Audience with Pope Leo XIV. As the Holy Father entered St. Peter’s Square, the first movement of Wolfgang Amadé Mozart’s "Eine kleine Nachtmusik" (K. 525) could be heard.

Performed by the young musicians of the Bella Musica Ensemble from the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, the violin brought Mozart’s original sound back to a place he himself visited in 1770.

We are delighted that this precious instrument from the collection of the Internationale Stiftung Mozarteum, Mozart’s Dalla Costa violin, could sound on St. Peter’s Square on this very special occasion. 🎻

A truly extraordinary encounter between Mozart’s legacy, music and the Vatican. ✨

For the sixth time, students and faculty of our Early Music department came to Siena for a week of masterclasses and concerts at Accademia Chigiana Festival 🇮🇹🎶
One of this year’s highlights was a joint concert of our Baroque orchestra together with with Bach’s B minor mass.

As part of this special collaboration with Accademia Chigiana we’ve welcomed the choir from Siena in Salzburg last spring for the first joint performance of this piece as the finale of our Barocknacht. The whole concert is available to watch on our YouTube channel - enjoy!

Mozarteum goes Italy 🇮🇹

Together with Stiftung Mozarteum Salzburg our Pre-College ensemble Ensemble Bella Musica Mozarteum🎻 will bring two of Wolfgang Amadé Mozart’s original violins on this year’s Italian tour. Some 250 years after Mozart himself visited Rome, Mozart’s extraordinary childhood violin and his concert violin, both from the collection of the International Mozarteum Foundation in Salzburg, will be heard in Rome next week. Highlights of the tour include a concert recording for Vatican Radio in the Vatican Gardens, an invitation to a general audience with Pope Leo XIV and a performance at the Forum Austriaco di Cultura Roma 🎶

You happen to be in Italy and would like to attend a concert? All tour dates can be found on the Ensemble Bella Musica Mozarteum🎻 channel.
