Our Grade 3 classes were treated to an incredible visit to Hohe Tauern, one of Austria’s iconic national parks. The excursion featured a hike up to the breathtaking Krimml Waterfalls, a wander through the forest to explore the ecosystem, and even a chilly dip in the crystal-clear waters of Blausee. The week concluded with a visit to the Kaprun reservoir, a hydropower plant that serves as a major energy source for Austria. Information for this post provided by 3s Student Nicholas Dankl

This week, we are excited to welcome a group of 10 students and 2 teachers from Bologna, Italy, to our school as part of the Erasmus+ programme.
Our Year 6 Events Team, along with Year 7 Italian language students, greeted our guests with a warm breakfast, joined them in lessons, and enjoyed a fun-filled treasure hunt through Salzburg. The air was soon filled with laughter and a wonderful blend of Italian, English, and German!
We can’t wait for more language and cultural exchanges in the future! 🌍✨
It’s time again to sharpen those pencils and open new chapters! 📚 At SALIS, we are excited for the journey ahead as another school year begins tomorrow. Here's to learning, growth, and making the most of every moment. Let's make this year the best one yet! 🎒✏️ "

A total of 25 candidates have successfully graduated with the IB Diploma in 2024.
Special commendations go to one outstanding SALIS student who achieved a phenomenal 44 points! Another exceptional student scored 42 points.
We are incredibly proud of all our graduates for their hard work and dedication!
An annual highlight in our calendar is definitely our school picnic, which gives the school community an opportunity to end the school year celebrating together, as well as the perfect chance to welcome all new parents and learners to the SALIS family. The picnic was held at Hellbrunn Park yesterday, and despite the hot weather in Salzburg, everyone had a great time. Thank you to all the teachers, parents, and especially our learners for making our day another unforgettable one!
Our grade 4i learners had the opportunity recently to visit beautiful Ireland, focusing on improving their English skills and soaking up the local culture. The group experienced many amazing things such as walking into the Atlantic Ocean for the first time, being introduced to Gaelic sports, and even learning a few Irish words! In the words of 4i learner, Filip Stanivukovic: “Ireland is more than just one beautiful green place. Under the beautiful, amazing nature, lives the strength, the bravery and the history of a happy nation.”
We are eagerly awaiting the exam results of our second IB graduating class, which will be released on July 6. Our students have been diligently working for the past two years to reach this milestone and begin their further educational journeys.
The IB Programme not only develops critical thinking skills but also teaches students how to solve complex problems—skills that will greatly benefit them in the future.
The IB Programme teaches our children how to learn, embodying the essence of the Chinese proverb: "Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere."
Our Grade 5’s recently enjoyed an action-packed week in Carinthia during their annual sport week. The students participated in various watersports, including stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, and sailing, as well as land activities like beach volleyball, biking and tennis. This event is a highlight of the Year 5 school year and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Salzburg University Professor, Historian and Archaeologist, George Nightingale, recently did a captivating workshop with the Salis 2i students. The students had the opportunity to discover how everyday soil and dirt can hold hidden stories and artifacts from the past, waiting to be unearthed. Such interactive experiences not only educate students about history and archaeology but also instill a sense of curiosity and appreciation for the world around us. “The workshop was interesting and great fun” Hakim Saad 2i
🎓 9 SALIS pupils participated in the 4th Salzburg Spring Symposium “Leben am Limes” (Roman history along the River Danube) at the Department of Classics, University of Salzburg, in April. 🏛️ They attended engaging lectures on topics such as the history of research along the Danube Limes, the life of slaves and freedmen, and education along the Limes and Carnuntum. 📚💡 It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to gain firsthand insight into an international symposium, witnessing scholars discuss relevant topics. 🌍🤓 And of course, they enjoyed some refreshments too! 🍰🥤 All pupils agreed it was an enriching experience and hope for more opportunities like this in the future. 🌟🎓
📚🌟 Sending our best wishes to our 8i students as they are embarking on their IB exam journey, which started last week! 💪📝 From Italian to Global Politics, Sports Sciences to Visual Arts and Business Management, we're proud to offer a diverse range of 17 (!!) subjects to our 28 candidates. With 15-18 exams per candidate, we know it's a stressful time, but they are well prepared and have been working hard to prepare for this. 👍
The IB exams are centralised and anonymised, happening simultaneously worldwide until May 17. Let's do this, and await the results together on July 6! 🍀🎓
🌟 Students from the 5i and 5s had an exciting workshop on Linear B writing with Mr. Nightingale recently. 📜✨ They delved into the ancient writing system used in the Mycenaean era. Mr. Nightingale provided an insightful introduction, followed by hands-on activities where students crafted clay tablets and practiced writing their names in Linear B. Despite some challenges due to the syllabic nature of Linear B, everyone mastered writing their names. Groups then tackled various topics, exchanging and deciphering each other's tablets. A big thank you to Mr. Nightingale for an engaging and enlightening session! 📜✍️🧠 - Jaithri Kandhimalla, 5i
🌟🎓SALIS graduate Oscar is currently doing his 10-month Austrian Civil Service before starting his studies at Warwick University in England. Here is what he wants to share with us about his time in Morocco 🇲🇦: "I am currently serving with the High Atlas Foundation in Marrakech for my Austrian Civil Service, where we promote sustainable development in Morocco. Adapting to Moroccan lifestyle was a challenge, but thanks to learning on cultural differences and adaptability during my SALIS IB days, I have embraced it wholeheartedly. The IB equipped me with crucial skills like effective planning and organising, enabling me to tackle complex tasks successfully. From writing articles on earthquake relief efforts to crafting proposals for financial support, my work involves analysing data and reporting on key indicators. Grateful for this enriching experience!" 🌏🇲🇦
Keep enjoying your exciting year in Morocco, Oscar!
🎓🌟 Former SALIS pupil Emanuel graduated with both the Matura and IB last summer and is now studying at the prestigious Durham University in England 🎓🌟. Here's what he has to say about his experience:
"I am currently in my first undergraduate year of Computer Science at Durham University, and thanks to Salis, where I was introduced to a multitude of cultures, I had no troubles at all socialising and connecting with people from all over the world. Furthermore, Salis and the IB combined with the Austrian Matura prepared me well for handling large amounts of work in an organised manner, which is a valuable skill at university. Especially IB Mathematics and Physics, which sometimes seemed undoable, gave me a head-start into most of my modules. I even learned from the things I might have missed while doing the IB, mainly being that I started studying a bit too late for the exams. I am additionally grateful for the fundamental skills I was taught at Salis: academic writing, efficient self-studying, and being open to and mindful about the opinions of others. All of these facilitated and eased my entry into university life.”
Wishing you all the best for the coming years, Emanuel!! 🤩📚👍
🌟🏆 This week, 10 of our talented students proudly represented SALIS at the Salzburg-wide chess tournament, showcasing their skills and sportsmanship! 🏁
👑 Our experienced team, led by Marc, Thomas, and Liam, alongside newcomers Max and Martin, secured an impressive 5th place out of 19 teams! A remarkable improvement from last year's 7th place finish!
🌟 Meanwhile, our first-time players, including Sebastian, Jón, Sumayyah, Michael, and Quirin, faced tough competition. Despite some initial challenges, they gained invaluable experience and managed to outshine expectations, securing the 18th spot! Their perseverance and determination were truly inspiring!
📸 Check out the photos capturing the excitement of the tournament. Let's celebrate the hard work and achievements of all our students! 🎉 🌟🏆
