Full house at China master class with Lin Liu MW!

Lin Liu, Weinakademiker and first female Chinese Master of Wine hosted a fantastic master class at Austrian Wine Academy. During the past decades China has developed into an important player in the international wine world. For most of the participating Weinakademiker this was the first in-depth seminar and tasting of Chinese wines. From whites such as Viognier, Riesling to Vidal Ice Wine and reds such as Cabernet Gernischt and Marselan – the range was impressive!

31st Graduation Ceremony with Weinakademiker Record Vintage 2024

With 93 graduates from 17 different countries, the graduation ceremony of 2024 celebrated the largest class of Weinakademiker to date. Also present was Jancis Robinson MW, the grande dame of the wine world, who was the first person to be made an honorary graduate of the Austrian Wine Academy in 1994. She personally presented the graduates with their Weinakademiker Diplomas in the glamorous ambience of the Esterházy Palace in Eisenstadt. Kevin Chan from Hongkong was awarded with the “Top student award” and Roman Horvath MW received at the ceremony the “ Weinakademie lecturer of the year award”.
Together with the graduates of the Wine Academy centers in Wädenswil, Switzerland and the graduates of the Wine Academy center at Geisenheim University , Germany, the alumni association “Weinakademiker Club” grew to more than 1000 members from 56 different countries.

The Jancis Robinson MW world of wine at Austrian Wine Academy

The grande dame of the world of wine Jancis Robinson MW returned to the Academy to celebrate her 30th anniversary as Weinakademiker h.c. with a splendid tasting last week. The tasting co-hosted by Academy director Pepi Schuller MW included seventeen great wines from around the globe. An international audience of 160 Weinakademiker and Diploma students form 27 different countries celebrated their fellow Weinakademiker superstar.

Semmelkrenn, Krautfleckerl und Bohnensterz der Kirchenwirtin

Der Weinkongress in Deutschkreutz ist noch immer in aller Munde und neben den Weinen des Blaufränkischlandes schwärmen alle von den regionalen Spezialitäten der Kirchenwirtin Anni Henrich. Ein Geheimtipp für Foodies, ein traditionelles Wirtshaus mit Wirtin Hanni und Wirt Harald mit einer fast überwältigenden herzlichen Gastfreundschaft. Dort wird so gekocht, wie man das im Burgenland nur mehr von der Oma kannte - und dazu natürlich die besten Blaufränker des Gebietes!!

27. Kongress der Wine Educators im Mittelburgenland

Das Vinatrium in Deutschkreutz gab die location für den diesjährigen Weinkongress. Ob im Vinatrium, bei den Winzern in private visits in Kleingruppen, im wunderbaren Schaflerhof des Weinguts Hans Igler, im Blaufränkischhotel oder im Barriquekeller der Domäne Pöttelsdorf - Blaufränkisch stand jedenfalls im Mittelpunkt, ob als Mittelburgenland DAC oder als Rosalia DAC beim field trip nach Pöttelsdorf bei strahlendem Sonnenschein. So reiste man von charaktervollen mächtigen Blaufränkern zum feinen Rosé, und für die Weißweindimension sorgten „Die Sieme“ Jungwinzer aus der Steiermark und auch Caro Maurer MW mit den Großen Gewächsen des VDP.

Miguel Torres gala tasting at Esterhazy Palace

The iconic Spanish wine superstar Miguel Torres himself presented “The Torres world of wine” to an enthusiastic international audience. This traditional event on the eve of the Weinakademiker graduation ceremony was moderated by Spanish wine specialist Frank Smulders MW. The fascinating tasting was also extremely entertaining and proved that humor can contribute considerably to the enjoyment of wine.

30th Weinakademiker graduation ceremony at Esterhazy Palace

At a festive ceremony in the fantastic Hadyn Hall of the palace 32 Weinakademie Diploma graduates from 11 countries were awarded with the title Weinakademiker, amongst them the first Brazilian. The Weinakademiker Alumni community grew to more than 1000 Weinakademiker from 51 different countries. The founding father of the Weinakademie and previous Burgenland minister of agriculture Paul Rittsteuer was awarded with the title Weinakademiker h.c.

Der Weinakademie Winzerjahreskurs startet mit Blaufränkisch Lese am Leithaberg

Vollreife und kerngesunde Blaufränkisch Trauben konnten die Teilnehmer am ersten traumhaften Seminartag des Winzerjahreskurses unter Anleitung von Prof. Hannes Laszakovits ernten und verarbeiten. Da kündigt sich ein toller Jahrgang an!

„The new Spain“ with Andreas Kuhbach MW and „Douro and beyond“ master classes followed on day two. A panel of German Spätburgunder producers led my Caro Maurer made the effort to present their great wines in spite of super intense harvest days.
To summarize the day: world class!

Weinakademiker Workshop at Leitz Winery

The traditional VDP tasting focussed this year on VDP Rheingau. Johannes Leitz hosted this event for close to 100 Weinakademie students and graduates at his brand new fantastic location. Weinakademiker top producers such as Gunter Künstler and Stefan Doktor from Schloss Johannisberg received their Weinakademie fellows with great wines.
