🌡️🏡 Keeping Cool Through the Summer: Natural Cooling for Future-Ready Buildings
How can homes remain comfortably cool in the future?
As climate change leads to more hot days and tropical nights, keeping residential buildings comfortable and energy-efficient is becoming an increasing challenge.
💡 Researchers at FH Salzburg’s Campus Kuchl are investigating how residential buildings can remain pleasantly temperate in the years to come. Their work focuses on cooling systems that use natural sources of cold, such as the ground or groundwater. 🌱
"These methods perform significantly better than split air-conditioning systems in terms of efficiency and operating costs. They can also perfectly complement traditional measures such as shading and night-time ventilation," explains Daniel Heidenthaler, researcher at the Department of Design and Green Engineering.
The research findings provide practical answers to the question of how buildings can remain comfortable, energy-efficient, and climate-resilient in the future. ☀️🏡

🎓 Our series continues!
For Lena Kainbrecht, design is about much more than aesthetics. After completing a Bachelor's degree in Timber Technology & Construction and a Master's degree in Design & Product Management at Campus Kuchl, Lena now combines technical expertise with creative thinking to drive sustainable change. 🌱✨
One of the most influential aspects of Lena’s studies was the exchange with fellow students. Different experiences, backgrounds and perspectives opened up new ways of thinking and demonstrated just how diverse sustainable solutions can be. 💡
For Lena, one thing is certain: the challenges of the future require creative solutions. Design can be a powerful lever in making them happen.
Congratulations on completing your degree, Lena, and all the very best for the journey ahead! 💚

🤖 Is everything that is technically possible also acceptable?
Technological systems are never completely neutral. They are built on assumptions, decisions, and values made by people. That is why it is so important to consider ethical questions right from the development stage of new technologies.
🔮 In the latest FH Salzburg ePaper, Katrin Rossmann, social scientist and lecturer in machine ethics, discusses the opportunities and innovation potential of AI, as well as the responsibility that comes with developing and using technology.

🎓✨
Lukas proves that there are many paths to earning a degree, not just the traditional route with a high school diploma, but also through vocational training, further education, and valuable professional experience.
During his Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Lukas served as a class representative and student representative, advocating for his fellow students' perspectives. An internship in auditing ultimately paved the way for his professional career.
And his journey at FH Salzburg is far from over: this autumn, Lukas will begin the part-time Master's degree in Business Management while continuing to work. 🚀
Congratulations on your Bachelor's degree, Lukas! We wish you every success for the road ahead. 🍀

💶 The EU is getting a new series of euro banknotes. And what does that have to do with Salzburg University of Applied Sciences?
Quite a lot, actually: the founders of the Salzburg-based branding and design studio PunktFormStrich are graduates of the MultiMediaArt programme at FH Salzburg. Their design for the future euro banknote series was selected by an international expert jury as one of the 10 finalists in the European Central Bank’s design competition, chosen from 1,200 submissions from across Europe. This means Austria is represented in the final round with its own design concept.
We are incredibly proud of our alumni and warmly congratulate the team at PunktFormStrich on this outstanding international achievement! 👏
The Europe-wide public vote is open until 21 September: https://surveys.ecb.europa.eu/10b/neweuro/

🎓 is back! In our series, we're once again introducing FH Salzburg graduates who celebrated their graduation in July!
✨ First up is Verena Harrer: After eleven years as an early childhood educator and kindergarten director, she decided to pursue a degree in Social Work.
🗣 In her bachelor's thesis, she explored the subjective experience of one's own personality, particularly in counselling situations. This perspective now supports her work as a social worker at MAS Alzheimerhilfe in Bad Ischl/Gmunden, where she advises and supports people living with Alzheimer as well as their families and loved ones through these challenging life situations.

🚀 Great ideas alone do not transform healthcare. They need the right structures.
Through the EU-funded THRIVE project, Salzburg University of Applied Sciences is collaborating with 14 European partners to help bring healthcare innovations into practice faster. As the only Austrian university in the consortium, we are developing a validation tool to support the journey from idea to market-ready solution. 🩺🔧
