Interface Cultures is an internationally oriented master & research program in Interactive Digital Arts, led by Manuela Naveau and Laurent Mignonneau at the University of Arts in Linz, Austria. The Interface Cultures department at the University of Art and Design in Linz, Austria provides an internationally oriented master & research program in Interactive Digital Arts, led by Christa Sommerer and Laurent Mignonneau, in 2020 Manuela Naveau joined the department with an additional focus on Critical Data and art.

Leonardo LASER is an international program that brings together artists, scientists, academics, and the public to share their work and inspire one another through presentations, performances, and discussions.

Our recurring LASER series Lab Songs explores evolving cultures of experimentation. Scientific and artistic breakthroughs arise not only from discoveries, but from transformations in practices, methodologies, and systems of care. As a result, laboratories are increasingly reimagined as spaces where aesthetic, technological, ecological, and theoretical forms of knowledge come into proximity.

For this year’s Sobremesas, we gather around the dining table as a site of encounter. Much like the laboratory, it is a place where experiences are shared, differences remain present, and knowledge is collectively digested. Join us in celebrating the conversations, relationships, and acts of care through which new understandings emerge and unexpected encounters unfold.

Come by to see how easily hands, faces, and bodies can be tracked with ml5.js and p5.js, explore how Processing can be used to create immersive Deep Space applications, discuss what’s next for Processing and p5.js, or exchange ideas about using AI tools in your creative practice or teaching.

Connecting Korean cultural heritage with contemporary digital practice, this work explores how movement rooted in Korean traditional dance can be reimagined through media art. Performers interact with an evolving visual landscape that responds to breath, rhythm and motion.

Developed in dialogue with CERN researcher Antonio Gómez Delegido, this live audiovisual performance was developed through research into the Standard Model, the Higgs boson and event reconstruction methodologies at CERN. It follows a speculative journey of particles inside the accelerator, where fields guide their movement towards collision.

A pack of strange, gender-q***r furry beings gathers in the centre of Linz. Through masks, sensors, movement, sound, and glitch, “Animal Rituals!” creates a feedback loop between body, animal, and machine - a ritual of becoming other and a celebration of q***r and posthuman identities.
