Sundays in Austria just hit different 🚂🌲✨

Coming from a place where everything is open 24/7, having absolutely everything closed on Sundays was a huge cultural shift. But honestly? It became my favorite part of the week.

Since you can't run errands or go shopping, Sundays here are strictly for disconnecting. It's the perfect excuse to hop on a ÖBB train and explore. Whether it's a day trip to Vienna, wandering around Salzburg, or just hiking to an insane alpine lake near Leoben, there's always a plan 🏔️🏰

Having 1 full empty day each week, just for myself, is definitely one of the best parts of studying at Montanuni Leoben 🎒 🗺️"

Hello again everybody, 👋🌍

Have you ever wonder what places are worth visiting and can be easily reached from Leoben? 🤔🚆

Today I collected some of the amazing spots that can be reached easily using the public transportation of Austria 🇦🇹

📍 Spielberg – The bull sculpture at the Red Bull Ring. About an hour from Leoben 🏎️

📍 Graz – Styria's capital. Climb the Schlossberg for the view over the old town. Around 50 minutes by train 🏰

📍 Pürgg – Small hilltop village in the Ennstal, sometimes called the "Cradle of Styria." Quiet, with old frescoes and a good view ⛪

📍 Leopoldsteinersee – Green mountain lake near Eisenerz. Close to Leoben and good for a half-day trip 🏔️

📍 Salzburg – Old town, baroque architecture, easy day trip if you start early 🎻

📍 Hallstatt – The lakeside village everyone has seen in photos. Worth the longer trip; go on a weekday to avoid the crowds 🏞️

📍 Maribor – Just across the border in Slovenia, if you want to leave the country for a day 🇸🇮

🎫 A note on tickets: the Top-Ticket Studierende costs 193 euro and covers all public transport within Styria for the whole study year — Graz and Spielberg included. Cheap way to get around if you're studying here 🚍🚆

Emilia here, hello again!

A closer look today at the academic side of my exchange at Montanuni. 📖🔬 Studying here is a great experience—getting to know different lecture styles, spending time in the cutting edge labs, and seeing how science connects with real life!

Besides, what makes the student routine here so good is the scenery. I love that my walk to class on Tuesdays and Fridays takes me right through the local market, watching spring fully bloom around Leoben, and always wrapping up a good study session with a post-class gelato 🍦

It’s the perfect mix of keeping up with uni and enjoying the everyday life here. ✨

One day at Europagymnasium Leoben 🌍🎓

Students from Montanuniversität Leoben visited Europagymnasium to connect with pupils in an international and interactive environment. Through conversations in English, students exchanged experiences about their home countries, school and university life, and learned from each other’s perspectives. 💬✨

The day was all about building connections between high school and university, practicing communication skills, and encouraging international exchange in a fun and open atmosphere. 🌎🤝

A special moment at Montanuniversität Leoben ✨

We had the honour of welcoming His Excellency Mr. Shambhu S. Kumaran, Ambassador of India to Austria, for an inspiring exchange with students and staff.

The discussion highlighted international collaboration in education, research, innovation, and student mobility, with a strong focus on creating future opportunities and support for students through global partnerships and academic exchange 🌍

Dr. Susanne Feiel, Director of International Relations, reflected on the continued development of international initiatives and collaborations, while representatives from ICS – Internationalisation Centre Styria, Mr. Karl Hartleb and Ms. Clara Lenz, shared valuable perspectives on international networks and industrial opportunities for students beyond the academic environment.

A meaningful and forward-looking exchange connecting and strengthening international cooperation, industries and student engagement ✨

Hello from Belgium 🇧🇪

My name is Elena, and I am another outgoing exchange student ambassador for the Summer Semester 2026.
Currently, I am studying at UHasselt in Belgium, where I am diving deeper into material sciences and photovoltaic technologies 🎓

In my first post, I would love to share a little bit of the architecture and atmosphere of the places around me 🏛️🌿 as well as the urban design here, where nature blends beautifully into the city and everyday life. The region where I currently live is Dutch-speaking, so it is always funny and exciting to hear the language around me — especially because I am learning German and can sometimes understand up to 40% of what people are saying!

Another interesting fact: this is one of the richest apple- and pear-growing regions in all of Belgium 🌸 which means there are blooming trees everywhere during spring, making the landscapes look absolutely magical ✨

Over the next weeks, I am looking forward to sharing more pieces of my life here: university life 📚 local culture, hidden places around Limburg, and my experience as an exchange student in Belgium.

But for now, enjoy these pictures 📸 and stay tuned for the next post!

See you next time!
