The current situation concerning Covid 19 and the measures announced by the different governments all over Europe also have an impact on the continuation of the SafeDeepMining program.
The ongoing module IX (“Management of rock burst problems in deep mines”) which is jointly run by the Silesian University of Technology, Poland and the ZAMG (Zentralanstalt für Meteorologie und Geodynamik), a research institute of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research, is conducted as an online module.

Module 6 "Rock engineering design in mines"
at Montanuniversität Leoben

For the first time also offered as an online seminar. Some of our participants continue their education without traveling.

Digital learning is creating new opportunities!

Kindly supported by guest speaker Prof. Heinz Konietzky, TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Germany.

Our Participants of SafeDeepMining

Dipl.-Ing. Michael Nöger

I did my mining engineering degree recently at the Montanuniversität in Leoben. Now I am mainly working on projects related to mine ventilation and rock mechanics. My PhD thesis is also in the field of rock mechanics. The participation at the SafeDeepMining program gives me the opportunity to gain new knowledge and experience, which I can use for my daily work. The course provides a big variety of different subjects.

Dipl. - Ing. Heinz Harrer

I am a mining engineer graduate of the Montanuniversität Leoben. I have been working for the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Regions and Tourism as a member of the Austrian Mining Authority for more than 15 years.
I am participating at the SafeDeepMining program because I want to brush up my knowledge about mining because many things have changed since I graduated.

Impressions of the visit of the „Himmelfahrt Fundgrube“ during Modul V in Freiberg

The „Himmelfahrt Fundgrube“ is a former ore mine in Freiberg. It is has been part of the „Ore Mountains Montanregion UNESCO World Heritage Site“ since 2019. The „Himmelfahrt Fundgrube“ with its “Reiche Zeche” and “Alte Elisabeth” shaft systems is used by the TU Bergakademie Freiberg as a teaching and research mine.

During the fifth module „Rock Mechanical Laboratory Testing“ of the SDM program at TU Bergakademie Freiberg the participants got an introduction to the topic with theoretical lectures. Afterwards they were able to test their new knowledge with practical experiments in the rock mechanical lab of the university.

Our Participants of SafeDeepMining

Roohollah Narimani Dehnavi, BSc MSc

I am currently working at the Chair of Mining Engineering and Mineral Economics (Montanuniversitaet Leoben) as a rock mechanics researcher. My previous working period was mostly devoted to subsurface engineering projects in which deep tunneling in weak rocks was a critical issue. The Safe Deep Mining Program provided me the chance to get familiar with the consequences of deep mining and the possible engineering solutions to avoid or control them. In my opinion, the variety of planned courses well covers different aspects of the issues in deep mining.
