👩‍🔬 For our Medical and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology bachelor degree students, the Introduction Lab marks the start of their practical laboratory training.

🔬 Working in small groups, the students moved through different stations and got hands-on experience with some of the most fundamental techniques they’ll use throughout their studies.

🧡 From accurate pipetting and weighing small amounts to spectrophotometric measurements and titration, the focus was on learning how to work precisely, safely and confidently in the lab.

🥼🧬 This week gave them a first introduction to our lab & and the foundation for many more practical courses to come!

👀 Corinna studies International Business Management and gave us a glimpse into what student life looks like from her perspective.

For Corinna, studying means around 4 to 8 hours of classes per day, plus a bit more study time during exam weeks. When lectures are over, you'll usually find her and her classmates in the garden at IMC Piaristengasse or exploring Krems' old town.

🎓🤝 : Meet our new Alumni Ambassador for Budapest, Sara Grimaldi.

Sara Grimaldi is our new Alumni Ambassador for Budapest, and she is ready to bring our graduates in Hungary closer together. An Informatics graduate of ours, Sara now works as a Junior Product Owner at Sony Europe in Budapest, and she wants to help fellow alumni in the city and across Hungary connect, share experiences and grow their network.

Her own path shows why that network matters. Sara arrived in Krems alone at 18, straight out of high school, and went on to build an international career across Austria, Ireland and Hungary. Working and learning alongside classmates from many different countries exposed her to perspectives, approaches and ways of thinking that she now encounters daily in global technology teams. This is what studying the international way is all about.

"Moving abroad taught me much more than any textbook ever could," she says. Three months before graduating she had already secured a full-time role at Amazon Web Services (AWS) in Dublin, and was later named a finalist for the STEM Champion Award 2025.

What connects every step is a willingness to say yes adopt to new situations. "Don't wait until you feel completely ready. Some of the best opportunities come when you step into the unknown," Sara says. As our Alumni Ambassador in Budapest, she now wants to pass that spirit on and be a first point of contact for our community in Hungary.

📖🧪 : Curiosity found its place in immunology

A bispecific nanobody targeting Bet v 1 and ICAM-1 became the focus of Sarah’s bachelor thesis at the Medical University of Vienna. Her work in the Lab of Antibody Research also contributed to a recently published paper, of which she is a co-author.

The project allowed Sarah, a student of our Medical and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology master degree programme, to apply what she had learned to a specific biological problem. It also strengthened her interest in immunology, antibody-based therapeutics and drug development.

Sarah is now continuing with our Medical and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology master degree programme. She wants to build on the academic foundation, friendships and community she has developed in Krems while continuing to explore where biotechnology may take her next.

🌍🎓 Nearly 30 years, one tourism degree programme

When Claudia Bässler graduated from Tourism and Leisure Management in 1998, the tourism industry looked very different. Her daughter Lisa now completes the same programme in 2026, entering a world shaped by digitalisation, sustainability and changing traveller expectations.

Their story mirrors the development of tourism itself. Since 1994, we have prepared students for an international industry that never stands still. Tourism and Leisure Management was the first English-taught degree programme in Austria's university of applied sciences sector and internationality has remained part of our DNA ever since.

For Claudia and Lisa, tourism is more than a profession. It is a field that connects cultures, generations and people. Their shared journey highlights how enduring values such as international perspectives, practical experience and curiosity continue to matter, even as the industry evolves.

🌍 International experience in Kenya. Global perspectives for the future.

Five students from our Gesundheits- und Krankenpflege bachelor degree programme recently completed their nursing placement in Kenya. During their stay, they gained valuable practical experience in an international healthcare setting and even visited the United Nations Headquarters in Nairobi.

The placement provided fascinating insights into the work of international organisations while broadening their understanding of global health and sustainability challenges. Experiences like these help students develop intercultural competencies and gain a wider perspective on healthcare systems around the world.

International opportunities such as this are an integral part of studying at IMC Krems and demonstrate how healthcare education can extend far beyond the classroom.

🔬🤝 For three days, Austria's chemistry community met in Krems.

We hosted the Austrian Chemistry Days 2026, one of Austria's most significant scientific conferences in the natural sciences, together with the Austrian Chemical Society (GÖCH) and the Czech Chemical Society. Under the theme "Trust in Chemistry", researchers, students and industry partners including BASF, KremsChem, Anton Paar, Bruker, Shimadzu and Agilent came together to discuss AI in analytical chemistry, sustainable energy and the circular economy.

Keynotes by Peter Schoenmakers (University of Amsterdam), Erwin Reisner (University of Cambridge) and Harald Pflanzl set the tone, with contributions from Aleš Růžička (University of Pardubice) and Karsten Haupt (Université de Technologie de Compiègne).

As Uwe Rinner, Head of our Institute of Applied Chemistry and Conference Chair, put it: "Trust in chemistry is not built through slogans, but through knowledge, transparency and tangible solutions to the challenges of our time." Hosting this conference reflects how closely research, education and practical application connect here, from digitalisation and data analytics to sustainability.

🧪🔧 : a semester in Valencia turned research into problem-solving

Meet Michaela Kienler, a student of our Sustainable Chemistry and Digital Processing master degree programme. During the practical training semester of her bachelor, which she has spent in Valencia, she learned that research is really about troubleshooting. "When something does not work as expected, you have to understand what went wrong, think creatively and find new solutions," she says. That mindset gave her more confidence in the laboratory.

Living abroad for a full semester shaped her outside the lab too. She adapted to a new environment, made close friends and spent her free time climbing, running and exploring the places around Valencia.

She has now started her master degree programme with us. She was drawn by its part-time format, which lets her gain professional experience alongside her studies, and by its focus on sustainability and digitalisation. Both are shaping the future of chemistry.

🧠💡 A data engineer who learned resilience on 100-kilometre runs.

"The body always reaches where the mind dares to go." This motto guides Dennis Waswa, a graduate of our Informatics bachelor degree programme, from higher education to ultra-marathons. Today he works as a Data Engineer at REWE International AG, creating reliable foundations that help businesses understand information, identify opportunities and make informed decisions.

When Dennis joined our Informatics bachelor degree programme, he was drawn by the potential of technology to solve real-world problems. The programme gave him the skills and confidence to enter a fast-moving field, and what appealed to him most was combining analytical thinking with practical impact. That interest in how digital solutions help people make better decisions still guides his work today.

Much of what he relies on also grew outside the classroom. As an ultra-endurance runner who has completed events from 50 to 100 kilometres, Dennis learned that progress comes from consistency and patience, not dramatic breakthroughs. He is now deepening his expertise with an MSc in Artificial Intelligence.
