🎯👗 Marketing built our beauty standards. It can dismantle them too.

Marketing does not just respond to what people want. It creates those wants, from harmful beauty standards to rigid gender stereotypes. Mareike Lehsten, in the final semester of her Marketing master degree programme with us, specialising in fashion and lifestyle marketing, wants to turn that logic on its head.

Growing up in Hamburg, Mareike knew at 16 that she wanted to work in fashion. It was a tool for self-expression, a way to feel safe in her own skin. Internships and jobs across the industry showed her something else too: what we perceive as "pretty" or "stylish" isn't just personal style but the influence of major corporations. Even the idea that women are associated with pink and men with blue is the result of marketing efforts.

That became her turning point. Following her bachelor in Fashion and Design Management, Mareike came to Krems to understand the real levers, from consumer psychology to fashion marketing. Her goal is to build brands that take their influencing role seriously, using marketing to educate rather than fuel blind consumption.

🎓💡 : Alumnus, entrepreneur and tutor, all in one.

Daniel Netzl turns data into decisions. As a Data Scientist and founder of Netzl Data Solutions, he helps small and medium-sized enterprises as well as regional organisations access professional data and software solutions.

For Daniel, technology is never an end in itself. It is a tool that solves real problems and makes people's work easier, with social responsibility and environmental sustainability always part of the conversation. Our bachelor degree programme in Informatics laid the foundation, combining theoretical knowledge with practical application. Daniel went on to complete a master degree in Artificial Intelligence at Johannes Kepler University Linz before specialising in data-driven systems. He has stayed close to us ever since.

As a Python tutor, Daniel helped students take their first steps into programming and understand complex concepts one step at a time, learning himself how much it matters to explain technical knowledge in a clear and accessible way. Understanding a solution yourself is not enough. You have to share it.

⚛️🔬 A rare look inside a working synchrotron.

How often do you get to stand next to a particle accelerator? For 30 of our students, that moment came at MedAustron in Wiener Neustadt, where a synchrotron powers precise cancer treatment. A maintenance window opened the door to this exclusive tour, giving students from our Management von Gesundheitsunternehmen master degree programme and our Gesundheitsmanagement bachelor degree programme a close look at high technology and cutting-edge medicine.

Guided by commercial director Alfred Zens, they saw where applied research reaches patients directly. As one of only six comparable centres worldwide, MedAustron cares for patients from across Austria and well beyond.

"What impressed me most was the palpable enthusiasm of the MedAustron team. That attitude of precision, responsibility and patient focus makes the difference," says Manfred Pferzinger, Head of our Institute of Health Management and Programme Director of Management von Gesundheitsunternehmen. "Insights like these show our students how science, technology and care work together."

🌱♻️ Sustainability was once a "nice to have". Not anymore.

: For Nina Walzer, sustainability now sits at the heart of a brand. As Marketing Manager at Brantner green solutions, she no longer communicates services alone but responsibility, attitude and innovation. She joined the company in 2011, shortly after completing our Management (then Unternehmensführung) master degree programme, and has shaped its marketing and communication ever since.

What stays with her most from her studies, she says, is the chance to not just understand marketing but experience it, through real case studies, practical projects and direct work with experts. That approach still guides how she reads complex situations, sets priorities and makes decisions that are creative and commercially sound.

Her connection to IMC Krems now takes a new form: a strategic partnership between Brantner green solutions and IMC Krems that brings science and business together in the future field of the circular economy. Nina is currently planning an IMC Alumni After Work in October 2026, offering personal insights into the renowned Krems-based company and valuable networking. Details will follow soon.
