The kick-off meeting for the BReUCom Program (project funded under EU Erasmus + Program in the field of Capacity Building in Higher Education), begins at SPA, Vijayawada.
KRVIA is one of the partners of the project along with ITC (Enschede), Donau Krems University, SPAB and SPAV. The meeting was attended by Manoj Parmar (Dean of the KRVIA Masters program)KRVIA coordinator for BReUCom.

KAHE team members and students of B.Arch, M.Plan. and M.Arch. (Housing and TCP) along with Ebba Brinks from partner university LUCSUS volunteered and conducted first-hand surveys at Gaja affected areas near Esanur in Tamil Nadu. They surveyed the aftermath of the cyclone and distributed tarpaulins for shelter to local people. Later on, Ebba shared her experiences and provided analytical tools of disaster/risk management that helped the students in applying field experiences in delineating their observations under specific categories (social, economic, environmental etc) and identifying the gaps - during and as an aftermath of the cyclone. SPA Vijayawada (SPAV) organised a Local Dissemination Workshop (LDW), as a part of “Building Inclusive Urban Communities (BINUCOM)”. The workshop was inaugurated by Director of SPAV, Prof. Dr. Minakshi Jain in the august presence of Dr Chakrapani (Chairman, APHRDI), Dr Jandhyala Shankar (ExMayor, Vijayawada), Dr M. C. Das, (Retd Head, Loyola College Vijayawada). Project coordinator from SPAV Prof. Nagaraju Kaja introduced the participants about the project. Dr Ebba Brink from Sweden attended the workshop. The workshop was attended by local stakeholders of the slums, representatives of VMC, Department of Town Planning of Govt of AP., APTIDCO, ward level corporators, architecture and planning institutes of the region and NGOs. The research done by SPAV delved into aspects of how to assess livability in settlements on the hill slopes, building a relation between vulnerability and tenure of settlements along canals, governance and participation in informal settlements in the periphery, and how architecture curricula in India can adapt to aspects of inclusivity. The workshop ended with participants sharing their ideas of how to deal with informality in growing urban context.

BInUCom and Faculty of Architecture, Design and Planning, Karpagam Academy of Higher Education conducted a “cleaning drive” at Vellalore resettlement colony in Coimbatore. The recent participatory exercise at the settlement (as a part of BInUCom research) revealed the woes of the community in terms of waste disposal. The architecture students and faculty at KAHE initiated a program to clean the streets along with interactive programs specifically for the children and women. Drawing competitions for children and Rangoli competition for women were conducted and prizes were awarded for the best works. Students of the M.Arch created awareness through interactive sessions with the dwellers and distribution of flyers.
