📐 Last Friday, I had SO much fun exploring the mysteries of fractals with children who attended a Club Special event at the FRida & freD - Das Grazer Kindermuseum in !
-'.🌿.'-At this event, I read the beautiful book "Mysterious Patterns" by Sarah C. Campbell with photos by Richard P. Campbell, which introduces children to repeating patterns (fractals) and how mathematicians describe them. ಄
The children traced some of these repeating patterns shown in the book with their fingers - mountains, rivers, ferns, flowers, lightning, and even broccoli! We practiced the names of shapes and objects in both English and German and - since we were out on the terrace - searched for examples of these patterns in the nearby garden.
💡 Some of my favorite moments in these kinds of readings are when the children recognize concepts described in the book in the environment around them.
After the reading, I invited the children to draw some of the repeating patterns they had seen, introduced them to the golden rectangle fractal, and the number series. Inspired, they soon entered the "Mathe-Dschungel" in the museum!

📐 - Do your children love the solving equations and exploring the mysteries of 𝐌𝐀𝑻𝐇?
Children aged 8+ are invited to join me on:
📆 Saturday, July 4 (10 - 11 a.m.) at the
FRida & freD - Das Grazer Kindermuseum
📍Graz, Austria
for a special reading of the book "Mysterious Patterns" by Sarah C. Campbell and Richard P. Campbell as part of their ( ) Club Special program!
𖧧 We notice repeating patterns in nature every day...in mountains, rivers, ferns, and even in broccoli! In this book, we learn about these patterns (fractals) and how mathematicians describe them.
After the reading, children can enjoy a Fibonacci numbers activity or directly enter the "Mathe-Dschungel" in the museum.

🌦️ Today, I enjoyed presenting the beautifully illustrated book "The Rhythm of the Rain" by Grahame Baker Smith in at Stadtbibliothek Graz (West Branch)!
I invited the children from Volksschule Strassgang (1b) in to follow a drop of water as it travelled through the and around the world, carried by streams, rivers, and oceans and transformed into clouds, rain, and mist.
🌈 After the reading, the children created beautiful drawings of water in many forms: building ocean waves, racing down waterfalls, floating in clouds, falling from the sky, sparkling in rainbows...and serving as the home to many sea creatures (including many ferocious sharks!)
I loved all the pictures, but one of my favorites depicted a sea at sunset. The little boy who drew this told me that all the deep sea creatures were sleeping, because the sun had set. 🌅
My reading workshops encourage children to explore English and scientific topics in fun, engaging ways. I'm scheduling my English Storytime reading workshops for Fall 2026! Simply contact me to learn more:

I am looking forward to presenting the beautifully illustrated book "The Rhythm of the Rain" by Grahame Baker-Smith in English at Stadtbibliothek Graz (West Branch) tomorrow morning!
In this story, we follow a drop of water as it is carried through the water cycle, travelling through streams, rivers, oceans, in clouds, rain, and mist around the world.

This is the part of my job with Stadtbibliothek Graz and volunteer work with the Migrant:innenbeirat Graz that I truly love: using my skills to help make children happy and spark their creativity!
On May 9th, I had the opportunity to read the inspiring book "The Proudest Blue" by Olympics medalist and trailblazer Ibtihaj Muhammad and S.K. Ali, illustrated by Hatem Aly, in English to a class of elementary school children in the Zanklhof library location in Graz.
Several things about this reading will remain in my heart, but these stand out:
- one little girl in a hijab sat front and center during the reading and was SO happy so see a positive, inspiring role model in the little girl depicted in this book.
- none of the children knew was was and were fascinated to learn (a little bit) about the sport and that a woman (in a hijab!) could win an Olympic medal in it.
- After the reading, I asked the children to draw a picture of something that inspired them or helped them to show courage...they came up with beautiful, creative ideas!
Sincere thanks to the Migrant:innenbeirat Graz for sponsoring this special reading, to the Stadtbibliothek Graz for supporting this cooperation, and to the children and teacher who participated!
