Der 2023 verstorbene, weltberühmte Theater- und Filmschauspieler sowie KUG-Ehrendoktor Peter Simonischek wäre heute 80 Jahre alt geworden!
In Erinnerung an Peter Simonischek blicken wir zurück auf seine Ehrendoktoratsverleihung am 5. Juli 2022 im MUMUTH.🫶

„Jedermann kennt Peter Simonischek als großartigen Schauspieler“, betonte Waltraud Klasnic in ihrer Laudatio. Der Festakt wurde von einer Darbietung aus der KUG-Schauspiel-Produktion „100 Songs“ 🎭 sowie von Musik 🎶des Trio Legend und einem Posaunenquartett unter der Leitung von Thomas Eibinger begleitet.

Happy Birthday, Olga Neuwirth!🎊🥳


Die international renommierte Komponistin Olga Neuwirth wurde vergangenen Herbst mit dem insgesamt vierten Ehrendoktorat der Kunstuni Graz ausgezeichnet. Damit folgte sie auf Phil Collins (2019), Schauspieler und KUG-Absolvent Peter Simonischek (2022) sowie auf die belarussische Musikerin und Demokratieaktivistin Maria Kalesnikava (2023). Letztere wurde von Olga Neuwirth in ihrer Dankesrede gewürdigt. Kalesnikava selbst konnte auf Grund ihrer Inhaftierung in Belarus das Ehrendoktorat nicht persönlich in Empfang nehmen. Sie wird aber anlässlich des musikprotokoll 2026 nach Graz kommen und im Rahmen eines Ö1 Gesprächs am 11. Oktober an der KUG im MUMUTH zu Gast sein!

The collaboration between Festival Academy Budapest and KUG provided students with the opportunity to learn from outstanding artists, engage in profound musical dialogue, and experience the highest standards of artistic guidance.

A week shaped by artistic curiosity, collaboration, and inspiring musical encounters.🎶🎊

As part of the partnership between and KUG students had the opportunity to participate in an outstanding programme of masterclasses, chamber music, and orchestral work under the artistic direction of and .

One of the defining moments of the academy was the exceptional masterclass with the legendary composer György Kurtág. His profound artistic perspective, extraordinary musical sensitivity, and attention to every detail offered invaluable inspiration and new perspectives on interpretation.

This artistic exchange continued through the intensive work on Béla Bartók’s Divertimento for String Orchestra. The KUG students worked on this remarkable repertoire under the guidance of , who also led the performances and performed the solo parts as concertmaster. The ensemble was further supported by (2nd violin), (viola), and (cello), creating an inspiring environment of mentorship and musical collaboration.

KUG-Student und Bassbariton Blaž Stajnko (MA Musiktheater bei Ingo Kerkhof und Gerrit Prießnitz & MA Gesang bei Matjaž Robavs) ist am kommenden Sonntag in der Opernproduktion „Ariadne auf Naxos“ in der Rolle eines Perückenmachers bei den Salzburger Festspielen zu erleben.🎭🫶 📻Ö1 überträgt die Premiere am 2. August live ab 20:00 Uhr. Die Oper ist aber auch zweimal im TV📺 zu sehen: 15. August, 20:15 Uhr, 3sat sowie am 24. August, 22:30 Uhr, ORF 2.

New compositions for mixed ensemble of 𝗣𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗼 𝗗𝘂𝗼 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝘁 (𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗽𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗼𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗼, 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗻𝘀, 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗮, 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼) are being sought, organised by the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.

The primary aim of this competition is to encourage the creation of new chamber music works. The 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 will be included as a 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝘂𝗹𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲 in the repertoire of all piano duos admitted to the competition. It will be premiered during the final round of the "Piano Duo" category, together with a selected string quartet from the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, at the 13th International Competition "Franz Schubert and Modern Music" in February 2028.

The competition welcomes composers of all nationalities and stateless persons.
