🇩🇿🌍 Rückblick auf die 4. Africa-UniNet General Assembly in Algerien

Diese Woche kamen Hochschul- und Forschungspartner:innen aus Afrika und Österreich an der University of Saïda Dr. Moulay Tahar zusammen, um wissenschaftlichen Austausch, nachhaltige Kooperationen und gemeinsame Zukunftsperspektiven zu stärken. 🤝🔬🌱

Unsere stellvertretende Leitung der OE Exzellenzentwicklung und Internationalisierung, Heidrun Mörtl, war Teil des Treffens und moderierte die Session „Shaping Sustainable Futures through Health and Technology“. 🎤

Im Mittelpunkt standen innovative Ansätze an der Schnittstelle von Gesundheit, Technologie und nachhaltiger Entwicklung. 🩺💻

Wir bedanken uns bei Africa-UniNet und der University of Saïda für die inspirierende Organisation, die wertvollen Gespräche und die vielen neuen Impulse für die internationale Zusammenarbeit. ✨

🇩🇿🌍 Looking back at the 4th Africa-UniNet General Assembly in Algeria

This week, higher education and research partners from across Africa and Austria met at the University of Saïda Dr. Moulay Tahar to strengthen scientific exchange, sustainable partnerships and shared perspectives for the future. 🤝🔬🌱

Our Deputy Head of the Organisational Unit for Excellence Development and Internationalisation, Heidrun Mörtl, took part in the meeting and moderated the session “Shaping Sustainable Futures through Health and Technology.” 🎤

The session explored innovative approaches at the intersection of health, technology and sustainable development. 🩺💻

We would like to thank Africa-UniNet and the University of Saïda for the inspiring event, valuable conversations and many new ideas for international cooperation. ✨

🧪🧬🔬 Two weeks ago, our exchange students and observers visited the Center for Medical Research (ZMF). Dr Andrea Groselj-Strele welcomed the group, introduced the center’s facilities and services, and led a tour of ZMF 1 and ZMF 2, where the Managing Directors of three Core Facilities shared further insight. Dr Eva Svehlikova guided the group through the Clinical Trials Unit and explained how clinical studies are realized there. Dr Heimo Strohmaier presented the Core Facility Flow Cytometry which offers researchers at Med Uni Graz expert support and state-of-the-art infrastructure for analytical flow cytometry and cell sorting. Finally, Dr Dagmar Kolb provided an inside look at the Core Facility Ultrastructure Analysis, which delivers ultrastructural research and electron microscopy services. Many thanks to the ZMF team for this informative and fascinating tour!

🇪🇺 Yesterday, Alexandra and Iris from our team attended the OeAD Erasmus+ Working Meeting in Vienna.

The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to further develop the administration of the Erasmus+ programme at Med Uni Graz, exchange best practices in project management with colleagues from other universities and higher education institutions, and gain insights into the future of Erasmus+ 🌍

Thank you to OeAD for hosting such a successful, informative and inspiring event!

Last Friday, our Welcome Center brought together international staff and guests of Med Uni Graz for a beautiful hike from Hilmteich to the iconic "Häuserl im Wald" 🌲🏡
We enjoyed stunning views, great conversations, and fresh air along the trail before treating ourselves to some well-deserved refreshments at the restaurant! 🍽️☕ After recharging, we took the bus back to Hilmteich 🚌😄
It was so lovely getting to know each other outside of the university setting. Thank you to everyone who joined us — you made this event truly special! 💚🤝

„Sprechen Sie Deutsch?" – Zumindest seit letztem Mittwoch sprechen ein paar unserer internationaler Studierende ein paar erste Worte.✨

Letzten Mittwoch trafen sich unsere internationalen Studierenden und Gäste beim International Get-Together für einen German Crash-Course von unserer Kollegin am International Office Iris. Ein paar neue Vokabeln, viel Lachen und der Beweis: Deutsch lernen kann Spaß machen und vernetzen! 🗨😄

❤️‍🔥🥼 The Cardiology Summer School 2026 has been in full swing since the beginning of last week! Since last Monday, international medical students have been diving into four weeks of hands-on learning at the Medical University of Graz (Medizinische Universität Graz )🩺.

This unique program combines inspiring lectures, interactive case discussions, and real bedside teaching at the Universitäres Herzzentrum Graz. From cardiomyopathies to pediatric cardiology, from heart surgery to cardiovascular research – participants gain insights into every corner of the heart ❤️.

🌍 Designed for medical students who have completed their pre-clinical training, the Cardiology Summer School is held entirely in English and takes place every August.

Our Paediatrics Short Course has come to an end. Since the beginning of July, international medical students have been diving into four weeks of hands-on learning at the Medical University of Graz (Medizinische Universität Graz)🩺.

This unique program combines inspiring lectures, interactive case discussions, and clinical rotations at our Clinic for Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine.

🌍 Designed for medical students who have completed their pre-clinical training, the Paediatrics Short Course is held entirely in English and takes place every February and July.

Staff Mobility Spotlight: Visiting Med Uni Graz!

As part of Erasmus+ KA171, we were delighted to welcome four guests from South Africa and Namibia last week: two from Namibia (University of Namibia) and two from South Africa (iYunivesithi Walter Sisulu, iWS). Our guests included colleagues from the fields of surgery, international student support, and internationalisation & partnerships.

The program focused on topics such as:
- Internationalisation & exchange of best practices
- Student mobility management for medical students
- Peer-to-peer student support & the Austrian student union (ÖH)
- Student services for doctoral/PhD students
- Welcome services for international students, staff, and guests
- Campus and university hospital tour
- Get-together with our exchange students

A special highlight: one guest from the surgical field also spent 3 additional days in the Department of General, Visceral and Transplant Surgery, gaining insights into techniques in general and laparoscopic surgery (including hernia repairs and colectomies).

Thank you for the inspiring exchange – we look forward to further collaboration!

Die Med Uni Graz hat sich Klimaneutralität bis 2035 zum Ziel gesetzt. Ab sofort erfassen wir bei Auslandsaufenthalten die genutzten Verkehrsmittel pro Reiseetappe – nur so können wir CO₂-Emissionen präzise berechnen und gezielt senken.
✅ Ab dem Studienjahr 2026/27 ist die Erfassung für alle Outgoings verpflichtend und Voraussetzung für die Stipendiumsauszahlung.
👉 Du reist schon jetzt? Trag deine Daten bitte bereits heute ein – je früher, desto besser! Die Erfassung erfolgt über den Mobilitäts-Fragebogen in Mobility-Online.
