Der Weg nach Laya / Gasa zum Royal Highland Festival führt auch beim Fruchtbarkeitskloster Chimi Lhakhang vorbei – dem Kloster des „verrückten Heiligen“.

Chimi Lhakhang, das Fruchtbarkeitskloster des legendären Drukpa Kunley – des „verrückten Heiligen“, der mit Lachen heilte.
Eine riesige Gebetsmühle, doppelt so groß wie ich. Wandbilder voller Humor. Und über allem: Diese Botschaft, dass Spiritualität auch sinnlich und lebensnah sein darf.
Bhutan berührt. Und Laya feiert. Ich lade euch ein zum:

Das Royal Highland Festival von 23. bis 24. Oktober In Bhutan
Das Royal Highland Festival ist weit mehr als ein Fest. Es ist eine Feier der Würde der Hochlandkulturen Bhutans, ein Brückenschlag zwischen Tradition und Aufbruch.
Mein Dank gilt Dorji Dhradhul, der das Festival begleitet und damit ein lebendiges Zeichen der Würde und der stillen Kraft des Hochlands setzt. Was hier geschieht, ist kein touristisches Spektakel – sondern lebendige Kultur, getragen von Menschen, die ihre Erde, ihre Tiere, ihre Götter und ihre Gemeinschaft lieben.

The Royal Highland Festival is far more than a celebration.
It is a tribute to the dignity of Bhutan’s highland cultures – a bridge between tradition and new beginnings.
My heartfelt thanks go to Dorji Dhradhul, who accompanies and supports the festival, creating a living symbol of the dignity and quiet strength of the highlands.
What unfolds here is not a tourist spectacle – but living culture, carried by people who love their land, their animals, their gods, and their community.

Durch meinen Freund Mohan Chamling Rai, der in Bhutan geboren ist, kam ich mit der bhutanesischen Kultur des Bogenschießens in Berührung.
Nach seinem Tod 2016, sah ich es als Auftrag tiefer in diese Kunst einzutauchen und Bhutan zu bereisen. So kam ich 2019 zur IAA-Weltmeisterschaft, zu der der Vater des derzeitigen bhutanischen Königs, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, - Jigme Singye Wangchuck - eingeladen hatte.

The father of the current King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, is Jigme Singye Wangchuck. He was the fourth King of Bhutan (Druk Gyalpo) and reigned from 1972 until he abdicated in 2006 in favor of his son.

Hier seht ihr mich im *Gho*, der traditionellen Tracht der Bhutaner. Mein Blick ist auf eine Veranstaltung gerichtet, dass zum 8. Mal statfindet: das Royal Highland Festival.

Das *Royal Highland Festival* findet in *Laya* statt – dem höchstgelegenen dauerhaft bewohnten Dorf Bhutans, auf über 4.000 Metern Höhe. Laya liegt im Norden des Landes, nahe der Grenze zu Tibet, im Distrikt *Gasa*.

Ein abgelegener, kraftvoller Ort – wo das Leben im Einklang mit Yaks, Bergen und uralter Kultur pulsiert.

My gaze is fixed on an event that is now taking place for the 8th time – the Royal Highland Festival.

The Royal Highland Festival is held in Laya – the highest permanently inhabited village in Bhutan, located at over 4,000 meters above sea level. Laya lies in the north of the country, near the border with Tibet, in the Gasa district.

A remote and powerful place – where life pulses in harmony with yaks, mountains, and ancient culture.

In gut 3 100 m Höhe liegt der Dochu La Pass, ein spiritueller Ort mit 108 eindrucksvollen Chörten (Memorial-Stupas). Hinter den Chörten gibt es kleine Höhlen - in denen man sich zurückziehen und meditieren kann. wenn ihr mehr erfahren möchtet: [email protected]

At an altitude of over 3,100 meters, Dochu La Pass is a spiritual place marked by 108 impressive chortens (memorial stupas).
