Single stick. Short stick. Dozens of different styles and even more “masters” preaching their respective style. Often, the joy of the thing itself - the joy of simply doing it - gets lost along the way. Unfortunately.
Not only in the martial arts, but with many people in most areas of life.
In the video you can see us fooling around with the short stick and simply enjoying ourselves, for a change just swinging the short stick around and having fun with it.
You don’t always have to be good at something or be a “master” at it to enjoy it! We have tons of fun with the short stick, and that is exactly why it will always be part of our training.
In that spirit: do things that give you fun and joy – happy New Year!
In this video, you can see sequences from the practical drill. The focus is on reaction, footwork, and alignment to the angle of attack. It’s a very good exercise for automating reactions.
Later on, the technique “Digging for Dinner” is shown – with the “extended” and the “direct” ending. Anyone who looks closely and has an understanding of the Doyle style will immediately recognize what is meant by this.
