SPC Benard Keter chose to serve after given the opportunity to receive a free education in the United States, “After so many years going through school I never paid a penny to go to college — I thought there were a lot of ways for me to give back to the community, to the people who supported me and joining the Army was the first option I had.”

Paying for college concerns most graduating seniors and their families, but the Army has a program that allows students to attend college while serving in the U.S. Army Reserve. “Participating in the Simultaneous Membership Program provides Soldiers and cadets an opportunity to apply what they’re learning as leaders in ROTC in a real-life training environment during battle assembly,” Brig Gen. Daphne Davis, the Deputy Commanding General Support of USAREC said.
