PROCLAMATION OF INTERNATIONAL WORLD FLUTES DAY
The World Flutes Festival (Festival Flautas del Mundo), after 18 successful editions of global reach since its founding in 2009, with the support of the Love the World Foundation, proclaims September 21 of each year as International World Flutes Day.
Rationale
September 21 coincides, in the Southern Hemisphere, with the spring equinox and with the International Day of Peace established by the United Nations. Both coincidences resonate deeply with the spirit of this instrument: the flute, made of breath and air, crosses every culture on the planet as a universal symbol of encounter, balance, and peace among peoples. Adding to this, the World Flutes Festival has, since its origin, always been held during the third week of September, reinforcing this date as the natural, already-established time frame for this celebration.
Purpose of the Proclamation
This date seeks to:
Recognize the flute, in all its cultural, ancestral, and organological variants, as sonic heritage of humanity.
Promote the exchange, study, and dissemination of the world's flute traditions.
Annually convene musicians, festivals, educational institutions, and cultural communities to celebrate and give visibility to this instrument as a bridge between cultures.
Celebration
The World Flutes Festival —held annually in Mendoza, Argentina, during the third week of September— constitutes the flagship celebration of this date, embodying each year, at its Grand Concert, the spirit of September 21 as a world day for flutes.
